I found a dress I love, which was priced at $2500. The salon offered me the sample for $1600. Does that sound like a fair price reduction for a sample? Is there any horrible reason I'm not thinking of why I shouldn't take the sample? I really didn't want to go over $1500 for a gown, and now I'm paying $1600 for a sample. I would have loved to try and order it new, but cheaper elsewhere, but I can't find the style number. It's an Alexis Georgio, and she doesn't have a Web site :(
So, what do you think? Am I crazy, or am I lucky to be catching a bargain?

Re: sample dresses
If you love the dress and it's THE dress, but ordering it is too expensive, then buy the sample. As long as it's in good shape and the salon will include repairs and spot cleaning in the alteration cap then buy YOUR dress!

Re: sample dresses
have you called other places to price it??? That would be teh first thing I would do, to see how much you'd really be saving--- Good Luck!

Re: sample dresses
It completely depends...I did buy the sample..The dress I got was WAY too expensive any other way. It depends on what shape it is in, if there are rips in lace etc, will they fix it, will they dry clean it before hand. Put in the contract certain dirt spots, etc that you are will ing to base the sale on if they don't come out, etc.
AND you are getting married at Land's End exactly 24 hours before me!

Re: sample dresses
Thanks for all the insights.
The dress appears to be in good shape. They claim that they've only had it for three weeks--that they had sold the previous sample and had recently replaced it. That seemed a little sketchy to me, but I was heartened by the fact that the tags were still in the dress-- that made me feel like it was a reputable place. they said they would press it, but no one explicitly talked about dry cleaning. If I go through with it, I'll try to get that in writing.
Unfortunately, there was a lot of pressure, because another girl saw me in it and wanted to try it on, and if she bought it, I'd have no other recourse... I wish there was a way to get the style number, so I could shop around. :(
Buckles-- How nice to cybermeet my Lnads End weekend twin! I just met with John at Flower Michele, and he said he was doing a wedding at Lands End that Sunday, so I assume that's you! He is going to be hanging organza from the ballroom ceiling for us, so if the Saturday night bride wants to leave it up, you are welcome to use it as well! btw... I just saw your save the date post-- they are adorable!

Re: sample dresses
I bought a sample dress from a designer in Soho. I paid half of the cost of a new one. They wouldn't do alterations, cleaning or storage. I love my dress but those three pieces have added a lot of extra work in trying to track down vendors. Just something to think about with sample dresses!

Re: sample dresses
I think if you love the dress and the sample is in your price range go for it!
You are almost getting like 35-40% off- which sounds like a great deal-- so I would not worry about that.. Although, what condition is the sample in? Will there need to be any 'repair' work? How much have you looked around otherwise?
