Sample Sale Question

I'm about to start looking for my gown, and I hear so much about sample sales (a friend of mine got a gorgeous designer gown for like $400 at one of them!!!) My question is... how do you hear about them??? Does anyone know of any coming up? I'd appreciate any information you could give me!

I hate to say it but I think they are big waste of time. I went to many and found nothing.
The only thing I can tell you is that if you are a size 4 or 6 and are OK with the idea of having the dress rebuilt - it might work.
I'm a size 8 so nothing fit me at all. Also - you have to be fairly short because the bottom is usually damaged and you'll need to cut a lot off.
Amsale had a sample sale and all the dresses were ripped, stained and needed beading. They would not help me find replacement beads and the dresses were still $1200. I think they would need about $600-$100 of work on top of that so I didn't bother.

I used to hear about the brides who got a dress for $400 too but it is very rare and takes a lot of time. Sometimes you have to line up the night before (as is the case for Filene's or Vera Wang)

You need to call all the stores and keep asking about them. TheKnot posts a few on their boards as well so check that.

Priscilla of Boston does have decent stuff for their sample sales and the a wider range of sizes. I got my dress there at a trunk show (10% off) but I think their samples may have worked out if I had waited.

there's one going on at the macy's bridal salons in the area. tell them you heard about it from theknot.com. they are also having a Demetrios trunk sale that ends tomorrow but I believe all the samples are on sale until they are sold.

ps: if you go to a macy's, go to the one in macy's in nyc (herald sq) because their samples aren't that old. the store has only been open 7 weeks.
