Re: San Diego

I've had a couple of awesome vacations in San Diego...a good friend moved out there a few years ago.

I usually stay with her so not much advice for hotels. I heard that the del Coronado is nice. Also, there is a new Hilton near the Gaslamp district.

Lots to do, and nice beaches if you don't want to do anything!

SeaWorld, Zoo, Wild Animal park are nearby.

Balboa Park, museums

Point Loma-old lighthouse and tidal pools!

Torrey Pines State Park-great beach

Mission beach

wineries nearby

Great choice for an anniversary trip!! Have fun planning!!

Re: San Diego

When DH and I were living in CA, he took me to San Diego for the weekend - it was to get me away from long-distance-long-island-wedding-planning (I really needed a break!)

Anyway, it was GORGEOUS...so much so that we started driving around to look at real estate and picked up some real estate books. We almost decided to move there for a couple years after the wedding, but then we got pregnant and that plan changed.

But, I would move there in a heartbeat! (Yes, I am jealous of Erica...she doesn't know it yet, but Paul and I are secretly going to stow ourselves in her suitcase!) J/K...unless there's room for DH, too! LOL!

Re: San Diego

Hi Ladies,
Thanks for all the information!! this is the trip we want to take...(hey claud!! how are you? hows the baby?? )

San Diego, CA: San Diego, Sans Convention
Dare to do Diego differently and experience the blue bay luxe of this lively seaport town.
You could go to the San Diego Wild Animal Park and hop a tram like everybody else, but you'll opt for a private safari to feed the Baringo giraffes instead.

You could sit in the bleachers and quietly watch Shamu perform, but you'll jump in the water yourself, and play with some dolphins in Sea World's DIP program.

You could also walk on your own two feet, even after that sumptuous Italian meal and bottle of wine, but you'll take a horse-drawn carriage to the Gaslamp Quarter, where blue-note, steamy jazz and brandy await.

Now take your flair for blue bay luxe to the edge of the Pacific with a drive to La Jolla, where upscale galleries and boutiques perch above crashing waves on the sand.

Here are some of the hotels in the area we were concidering, doesn anyone know anything bad or good about any of these?

Hyatt Regency Islandia

Coronado Island Marriott Resort San Diego

Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego (formerly Hyatt Regency San Diego)

Hotel Del Coronado

Re: San Diego

the Hotel del Coronado is probably the best hotel in SD...there is a very famous Marilyn Monroe picture of her there...if you can afford it...i would go for it there..

Claud...all three of you can come

Re: San Diego

Susan...the first hotel is in Mission Bay...which is right near Sea World...and the beaches...right offthe freeway...

but I would go for the coronado one (#2- if you cannot afford #4)...but you would have to drive to EVERYTHING...but it is on an island...and it looks very spaish...

as for #3...downtown SD is not so hopping on the weekend...except the nights inthe gaslamp district...but then there are lines around the buildings...and I found that there were no 'pubs' really around...but you'd be near the zoo..

#4...would get my vote...if I had the cash...

you may want to look at the La Jolla deal...(thats where we are moving to)...but again...not really near the attractions...and you would have to drive...
