I am currently in the process of making appointments with photographers, dj's, florists, and limos. Are you girls using the preferred vendors for Sand Castle or going with other vendors, and why?

Hi there! I'm also looking to select photographers and djs. I went to their mini showcase last week and Genesis was DJ and they were great. FH isn't yet sold on them so we can't book them. They had 3 MCs so we can get a sense of their style: John, Fabio and I can't remember the last guy's name. I really liked John and Fabio.
We also really liked the photography work of Matthew Adam, they offer a combo of candid and portrait pics. Sorry, I don't have quotes. I haven't made calls just yet.
I'll keep you posted as I reach out to vendors; we're going start next week. This weekend our parents are meeting for the first time, so we're working on that.

I also went to the mini showcase last week and did like Genesis events. I actually have an appointment with them on Tuesday to discuss prices. I am a little concerned that they have built a surround sound system into the Sand Castle which only they can use. I wonder how that will make other dj's sound?
I also really liked the work of Matthew Adam, however I thought his prices were a bit high for what you get. It seems like other photographers offer more in their packages. I want to check out Deja vu and Patken photographers also.

I am using Silverfox Ent. for our DJ and I can't say enough great things about them thus far!
We checked out Silverfox Photography and Deja vu and we liked them but we didn't 'click' the same way we have with all of our other vendors so we're checking out a few more.
Goodluck!!

You raise a good point. I hadn't even thought about that! I tried to do a search on past SC brides that didn't use Genesis and I found two (included below). They both seem to have really enjoyed the experiences. I'm going to speak with my SC consultant... it may be worth it to ask other DJs if they've worked at SC before. I can't imagine the other companies sounding terrible but now I'm concernend. :( I'll let you know what my consultant says.

I just got married at SC and used Genesis - they were really great. But, I think we paid extra because of the surround sound. I only say this because I have a friend who met with them after my wedding to get a quote for a very similar package and it was much less (she is getting married at a different venue). The difference was about $700, which I thought was very high considering the only real difference was the use of surround sound (we did have a video montage and name in lights (gobo), not sure if those were included in her quote - but they were part of our basic package and big deal, lol - both things I could've lived without and def wouldnt have spent an extra $700 for).
That being said, we were over all very happy with Genesis - they were a pleasure to work with.

Not sure if your getting married at the venue but if so, we booked used the recommended officiant from Sand Castle, Reverend Johnny Erato. A++++++. Such a nice and professional guy.

I have an appointment with Genesis tomorrow. I hope they don't charge too much. I would like to use them but not if they go way overboard with the pricing. I can't believe they would charge more at a facility where they are the preferred vendor. I guess they have to pay for their sound system somehow :)

Hmmm..... A good friend of FH recommended LI Sound. He has used them for a lot of functions and said they were great. I may have to look into them.
Please let me know what your SC consultant says. I will let you know the price I get when I go to my Genesis appointment tomorrow.

Okay, here's the scoop. I just spoke to my consultant and she said other DJs bring their own speakers and usually set up 1 speaker in front of each bar for a total of 2 speakers. She said the music sounds like it would at any party and there is no echo. The music will sound good but it just won't be surround sound. She also said I can have the DJ come to SC to check out the room. She said not to worry about using a different DJ. So that's good news.
Are you going to try to see the DJs perform live before you make a decision? After seeing Genesis I kinda like the idea of seeing the MCs in action. If you check out LI Sound please let me know your thoughts. This is exciting

Thanks for sharing this information! $700 is a huge difference for surround sound. I liked Genesis but FH wants to check out a few other DJs and we'll definitely keep this mind. I think the only feature I would like to add is our name in lights.

We are using Genesis at Floral Terrace due to the surround sound AND because they have gone out of their way to find other musicians for us such as an opera tenor and a piano player for the hospitality suite. We didn't think they were more expensive. I have been on the phone with Fabio every other day about something, LOL, and they have been totally patient and nice to me. We are also using Deja Vu after lots of research and a great e-pic shoot with Pedro that totally put us at ease Our florist is Colonial Florist because they have been the family florist for years and Claudio is as obsessed with flowers as I am! Haven't tried the house cake people yet, will try them soon. The only house vendor we were not crazy about was the DOC. They were nice enough, but way more money than others and I just didn't feel it was necessary for us. House vendor are important to check out and consider, but don't feel obligated to use them by any means! If your vendor is pushing you, that is not a good sign!

ITA - I don't regret using Genesis, I just thought it was weird that me and friend got such different quotes for basically the similar package. They really were great, our dance floor was full the entire night :)
I thought the house cake was more than fine. It tasted good, better than most wedding cakes i've tried and looked fine too.

FH had to work overtime last night so we had to cancel our Genesis appointment and they have no more available appointments this week. Hopefully we can get one for next week.

I booked with Genesis and think they were very reasonably priced. I love their MC's and they always do such a great job at all the showcases so I was hooked right there.
I also booked with Abbey photography. Great guy very nice and good pricing for a videographer and photographer.
Distinctive Floral Design is my florist. Speak to Maria she is great! I went in and knew what I wanted and just told them exactly and they hit the nail on the head. They even threw in a few extras a no cost.
