Is this is a christian tradition and ritual? Do you either do the sand ceremony or the unity candle?
Just curious. Im Jewish and have never seen a snad ceremony at ANY wedding I have been to.

Re: Sand ceremony question
Yah I just asked what this is too, because I have no idea.
I'm Catholic and I've never seen it done, so idk if it's religious or cultural or something else.

Re: Sand ceremony question
its not specific to any particular religion or denomination.
some ppl do use it as an alt to a unity candle. we did. we were outside and had a beachy theme.

Re: Sand ceremony question
It is more spiritual & symbolic than religious.. neither myself or my husband are religious and we did a sand ceremony w/ my 2 children to represent the blending of our lives together.

Re: Sand ceremony question
I did the sand ceremony for my wedding! I loved it. It's really no different than the Unity Candle (other than the fact that you're using sand instead of fire. lol). You can make it as religious as you want. I had added (besides the colors already there that were representing me & dh), White sand at the bottom. This was representing God as the foundation of our life & marriage. But I've seen others go without this.
