Sandals HM Question - xpost from '10

Ok - so originally FH and I wanted to do Tahiti and Bora Bora for our HM - but now that has been pushed back for our 1 year anniversary. So - we are on the hunt for a new place for our HM. For those of you that booked Sandals, did you use a travel agent or did you go directly through Sandals? Also - pls recommend your Sandals resort!!

TIA!!!

I went though my travel agent because I have one I have used for years and I wanted her to get the commission. The price will be the same either way.

I do recommend whether you use a travel agent or not that you keep checking Sandals website after you book. i had my priced reduced 2x's because they were running sales. The only problem was I had to have my travel agent call since they would not deal with me since I was using a travel agent but they honored the sale price each time.

I went to Antigua and it was beautiful. We chose that particular resort for two reasons. 1. the building was new, not updated and 2. their was a casino a few feet from the resort and DH and I love a night life which Sandals doesn't really have.

The food was great, beach amazing, resort immaculate...just too coupley for us. We don't like to be attached at the hip and like to make friends while on vacation.

FH and I are considering doing a Sandals resort for the HM. We are on the fence though because part of me feels like Sandals is so cookie-cutter and everyone goes there for a HM...

My friends who do Sandals every other year said the best resort is the Sandals at St. Lucia (Grand St. Lucian) because it had the best service and most services included. The one Sandals they didnt care for was the one at the Royal Bahamian.

We booked directly through Sandals & went to Sandals Grande Antigua...it was truly magnificent...we loved that everything except the excursions were inlcuded. It was so wonderful & romantic, & the people honestly the NICEST out of amywhere we've EVER travelled - that we are planning to go back there for our 1 year anniversary!

The only thing we booked separately was the airfare...b/c we were only putting down a deposit when we first booked - our flights kept getting changed & bumped - so we just bought airfare direct instead.

Are there any nonstop flights to Antigua from NYC ( La Guardia or JFK?)

American Airlines has non stop flights from JFK to St. John's/Antigua.

Jet Blue is also now offering non stop service to St. Lucia.

Hmmm that's strange - there were no such flights when we booked our HM - only JFK to Miami or San Juan & then on to Antigua. Antigua airport cannot accommodate large commercial aircraft...

Thanks ladies! A non stop flight is very important to FH and me.

we booked 4 nights at the St. Lucia Grande for our minimoon (we are doing Alaska in the summer for the honeymoon). We went through a travel agent and it was so so so easy. I've never used one before but will use one from now on. Sandals is booked good deals right now (i think)...our room was 55% off regular rates. [We've never been to an all-inclusive so figured this was a good way to try the first time.]

**If you need a non stop flight, it might determine the number of nights you stay and/or what day you leave. For example, JetBlue to St. Lucia ONLY has nonstop flights on Sunday, Mondays, and Thursdays. Also, the airport is 1.5 h from the Sandals plus its international so you really lose that whole day to travel. We only wanted a quick getaway but its something you need to consider...*

We are going to Sandals Antigua. We booked through a travel agent. We are flying non stop from Newark though.
