Sandals wedding

Hi. My fiance and I are considering getting married at Sandals or a similiar kind of resort. This wedding planning is stressing us out as far as money (or lack of). What do you guys think of a Sandals wedding? Have you ever been to any? If anyone has gotten married there please give me an idea of about how much it costs. We're still debating on Sandals or a nice wedding here. Thanks!

Re: Sandals wedding

My nail person got married at the Sandals resort in the Bahamas and loved it! She couldn't stop raving about how much they bent over backwards for her while planning it from NY! You just need a good wedding coordinator who can help make your dreams come true! I have a reference if you want to send me an FM.

Re: Sandals wedding

HI!! FH and i were looking into getting married in mexico at aventura spa palace, but decided against it, since a lot of people we love wouldn't be able to come (g-parents for instance). with that said, i think its a great idea. my sister got married in the bahamas at the sandals resort in 2004. Her and her fh loved it. They only had their immeidiate families at the wedding. It was nice, very look key, and no stress with planning. I know they have different packages u can get. My sister got the basic one that included a fruit, crackers, and cheese platter and a wedding cake for the 10 of us. The only thing that she didn't like about it, was she had to pay $100/p.p. for us (her guests) that weren't staying at the resort in addition to the cost of the wedding. also while i was looking into having our wedding in mexico, i found the knot.com message boards to be very helpful. They have one called destination weddings. All the girls there are like ther girls here, VERY NICE and HELPFUL. Feel free to fm with any more questions u may have.

Re: Sandals wedding

i think that would be really really nice!

however, as was mentioned before, i think it depends on your guest list. . . you have to think if people have kids who are in school, would they be able to miss school?

i know for my family it would not work, everyone is planning a wedding, has an infant or has school age children - on the other end of the spectrum - FH has a lot of older relatives who wouldnt be able to make the trip

if your guest list is different and you feel that you would be able to do it - then DO IT!!! it will be a beautiful special moment no matter where it is!

btw - i dont think that you should try to accomodate EVERYONE but just think of those special people that you would really want to be there!

Good Luck!

Re: Sandals wedding

that sounds like a great idea, but whenever i look at the sandals resorts as a place for FH and I to vacation the prices per night are always RIDICULOUS!!!!! but that's only my experience you can go on the website and see how much it would be for you to stay there....... and then maybe your guests to could stay at a less expensive place....good luck!!!!

Re: Sandals wedding

i was really considering this but what turned me off was their photo package. being that i used to take photography classes and super into photography, that did it for me. other than that, i was gonna invite 30 people (close family and friends) and it would've been amazing. their packages are a lil high with the tables but i liked the lowest costing package the best. overall you can have your honeymoon and wedding under 10,000 and thats a bargain!!

Re: Sandals wedding

p.s. if you do it at sandals it has to be all couples.. i know definetely no children so maybe have it at beaches where they have a sandals resort a lil bit a way and you can enjoy both resorts

Re: Sandals wedding

Well, we were considering eloping and not inviting anyone and that's what makes it such a hard choice. but we would be able to save so much money and have a nice wedding and a great honeymoon. Also we'll be able to keep our 2008 plans. I think if we go more traditional and have it here we may have to push it back a bit to able to save more money and we won't be able to have a nice honeymoon. There are so many pros and cons to each side it's driving me nuts!

I know the people that are really important to him are his mother, brother, stepfather (cannot travel), sister, grandmother, wheel-chair bound cerebral palsy aunt, grandfather(grandma, grandpa, & aunt live in Puerto Rico), and a handful of our friends.
I have my sister, brother in law, 2 nephews, sister's mom and sister's father and wife.

So if we decide to get married at Sandals it would most likely just be the 2 of us. Wow just writing this made me want to have it here. It made me think of the people we want to have share our day. We have a guest list of about 60 people. Most of them can be crossed off if necessary, parents friends etc.. to make the party even smaller and therefore more affordable. The problem with that is that I want to have a party atmosphere. I want to have a DJ and everyone dancing. I think that's a lot harder when you have a small group of people.

Ughhh, I was talking to his mom yesterday about having a Friday night or Sunday afternoon wedding because we can't afford Saturday and she voted for Sunday afternoon because many people work on Friday's. Then I told her we probably won't be inviting children except for my sister's kids and his cousin's kids just because they are OOT. She said that won't go over well at all. She said a lot of people will refuse to come if they can't bring their children. She's planning his sister's Sweet 16 and mentioned not having small children attend and she said quite a few people got mad and said they wouldn't come if that was the case. The problem is we have a guest list of about 60 people. If we include their children we will have 28 children. That adds up to serious cash. AHHHH the stress is starting to hit already.

Re: Sandals wedding

Great question! I've also considered a Sandals wedding. The only thing that sorta turned me off is that you can only chose from 4 or so 'themes' with set colors and flowers. ...but I guess that means less concern and stress with the small details, since they take care of that.

NO CHILDREN? Really? How about children in the wedding party?

$100pp is good considering that the WHOLE family won't show up!

Good luck Maureen

Re: Sandals wedding

if she isnt paying for any of the wedding, then you do whats best for the 2 of you. f what anyone else says! i am not having like any children at my wedding. a 16 year old cousin an 11 year old cousin my 13 year old sister and my 11 year old brother. thats it. there are tons of other cousins but i refuse to invite them. we cant afford all of that either so we're doing whats best for us. its YOUR wedding dont let anyone else tell you what to do or who to invite

Oops, I didn't read that post. It is true that the whole 'kids at the wedding' thing can stir up some drama but do what is best for you. Those who care about you will understand and will be there.

If you MUST invite them, I've heard that some halls offer seperate menus for children and will cost half the price each.

Personally, FH and I are putting off our wedding 'til '09 so that we can save! I'm in college and he just graduated so...we're broke for now! Though my parents insist on helping out... I still would like to finish school before I get married.

However, I wouldn't advise you to put off your wedding solely for financial reasons. It's about you and your husband and if you can only afford to have it with ONLY parents, close family and a few friends DO IT!

Good luck girl, I feel your frustration! I'll FM you if I stumble upon any useful info.

Re: Sandals wedding

The only thing about these weddings is they are not private. As you are getting married on the beach people are in the water and walking by in bathing suits. Even in the garden I walk through a couple of wedding ceremonies. Its not like the commericals where they show this private beach and garden!

Re: Sandals wedding

i think its a nice idea.....but trips like that are $$$$ and unless u won lotto or can afford to pay for your guests.....thats an expense that they have to come up with. So honestly how many ppl will truly come? But you can do something like that and still have a samller les formal reception here?! Also remember.....kids?! bc Sandals is ADULTS only.....so thats something you need to consider!

I thought the same thing. So FH & I decided to get married in a gazebo on the resort property. That way it is private I you can still see the view of the ocean. We are getting married in St. Thomas.
Maybe you should look into other locations. We are doing the destination wedding because of cost too.
