Santorini anyone???

I was wondering if anyone has been to Santorini and or any of the Greek islands for their honeymoon...I really want to go there and FH wants to go to Hawaii...I've been to Hawaii and would definitely go back but I want to experience something new together as our first adventure...We are an adventurous couple and need to be out and about doing things...so does Greece/Santorini offer opportunities for adventure and what are they...also how much do you think 2 weeks would cost? Thanks in advance for your advice and input! I really appreciate it! We need to make up our mind soon!

I can't help you on past experiences, but we are going to the Greek Isles for our honeymoon. We thought it would be more exotic than a trip to the Caribean or Hawaii.

Instead of spending 2 full weeks on Santorini, you may want to look into island hopping. There are some beautiful islands in Greece that I am sure will fulfill your adventurous side.

I have found tripadvisor.com to be very helpful in planning my trip. Good luck!

Thanks I appreciate it...did you arrange your whole honeymoon on your own with the help of the trip advisor or did you initially meet with a travel agent for some guidance? TIA!

We are doing 3 greek islands for our honeymoon. 2 nights in Athens, 3 nights in Mykonos and 4 Nights in Santorini. Each place offers something different (So I hear) so we are really looking forward to it...i haven't heard anything but wonderful things from Greece.

I am doing mine all on my own, but I kind of like planning my own vacations.

It's going to be up to you, some people are more comforable using a travel agent. Just know that it is possible to plan on your own....

Re: Santorini anyone???

I've never been to Santorini but I am of Greek heritage and visit the motherland often so hopefully I can give you some advice/tips/first hand experience that might help your decision.

Santorini (from what I hear--FH has been there) is absolutely beautiful. It is VERY tourist friendly and rates are reasonable but keep in mind that the Euro is currently stronger than the dollar. Other than that, you can expect a very relaxing, scenic atmosphere. YES, there are 'adventurous' including riding a donkey up a mountain (trust me, it's a lot scarier than you think LOL). There are also tons of wineries, ancient ruins and romantic spots you can hit while there.

Aside from that, Greece as a whole is just breathtaking and wonderfully hospitable. Most of the populations speaks/understands English so not knowing the language is NOT a problem. Tourism is one of its main sources of income so they welcome tourists all year long!

Here are a list of a few more places that you might want to visit in Greece:

Athens--a bustling city complete with scenic beach town and great nightlife (Glyfada), great shopping (Plaka) and of course, the Acropolis.

Halkidiki--located in Northern Greece it is where the 'Upper crust' of greece go for a little R and R. Think of it as the Greek Riviera

Crete--a gorgeous island that will give you views of enormous mountains as you stand on a white, sandy beach. The people on this island are probably the MOST sweetest and hospitable you will find in ALL of Greece!!! Lots of things to do as well such as water activities (scuba diving, boating, etc.)

Mykonos--an arid island complete with crystal blue waters, white sands and oh yeah, some of the best nightlife you will ever experience. If you feel like dancing on tables, this place is for you. NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART

Kefalonia--located in the Aegean Islands, it is a lush paradise with lots of Italian influence. It is also located close enough to Zakynthos and Kerkyra (Corfu) that you can take a boat easily betweeen the three and get to see all of these islands without spending a lot of money.

These are just A FEW places you can check out, but there are so many different options. If you have any questions, feel free to FM me!!

Re: Santorini anyone???

My fiance and I are both greek and we took our first trip to greece together this summer. In 16 days, we went to a bunch of places, santorini being one of them....also my favorite.....Santorini is beautiful!!It is definitely a place you want to experience with your love! there is a ton of things to do...you could hit up the wineries, climb the volcano, swim in the hot springs, go to the black and red beaches, watch the absolutely beautiful sunsets, etc....we spent 4 nights there...i could have stayed longer but i would def. not go for the full 2 weeks....greece is a beautiful country with so many islands to see....I highly recommend greece and i think anywhere you go there you will LOVE!!!
