Sarting a family soon after wedding??

Hello all, I LOOVEEEE looking at your pics.

It seems that a large portion of women on this site start a family within a year or two of getting married(trust me I think that is great). I didn't plan on starting a family for about three to four years after we get married(I am slowly getting certified to be a HS math teacher). Am I in the minority???? I would like to know if I am being unrealistic.

I think you should start when it's right for you & DH. No time is the 'right time'.

As much as I LOVE kids and DH WANTS a baby sooo much I also am waiting for another 3 years. We have been married for a year but we still feel there is alot that we want to do together (like traveling) before we decide to have children. I completely understand how you feel.

I think it really depends on what you and DH want to do. There is no 'right' time for everyone. It is a personal decision.
Honestly, my age played a factor in our decision. I am 33 years old and DH (who will be 36 this Jan). We decided that we didn't want to wait a few years. But if I was in my 20's I am sure we would have waited a year or two.

We are waiting several years, mostly because we are so young-25 and 27. The engagement ring was my college graduation gift and we got married pretty young. We've already been married two years and will probably wait another 2-3.

I don't think we're in the minority. It feels like we are because we read about all the people that pregnant/mommies/trying, but not about the people like us. Right now I'm on the parenting board only as a cheerleader for these amazing women and a lurker for my own information.

Bottom line is, do what's right for you and FH.

I'll be 25 when we get married and would like to wait until I'm 28 to have children. I just graduated law school and have just started my career so I'd like to build it up before we TTC.

truthfully, i am 26 and DH is 31 - and we want to be able to provide the best for our baby when we have one. If we were prepared financially (and emotionally!) we would have one asap. But we want to save $$ and enjoy our time as newlyweds - get settled, etc. I think we will start trying in 1-2 yrs. My DH doesn't want to wait too long bc he thinks he is getting old! LOL And I would like to have one before I am 30. It all depends on timing but it is not something to rush into!! I think a lot of us get baby fever. I just visited a friend last night who had a baby 3 weeks ago - and I was so happy to hold her etc, but I was like SO much goes into taking care of this little peanut! I don't think I'm ready for that yet.

I'm another one where age played a bigger than normal part - I got married at 30 and we wanted to wait a year or so before having kids. I'll be having my first one 2 months shy of my 32nd b-day, and we hope to have a few more. It was the right time for us because I felt established in my career and we had accomplished all we wanted to. That's different for everyone so only you can answer when you're ready.

I'll be 33 when I get married, FH wants a honeymoon baby but we've agreed to start TTC when we're married about 6 months, yes age is a factor in this decision. If we were younger I'd wait much longer....

I also don't want to wait too long because I don't know how easy it's going to be for us.

Good luck to all of you.
