Sat. afternoon vs. Friday night

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the boards here because I just got engaged 8/31/07. Anyway, I've been looking around at halls and am thinking about having a Saturday afternoon wedding at the Woodbury Country Club. What do you all think about this? Is a Friday night wedding worth the price difference? My main concern with a Sat. afternoon is the girls getting ready in time for pictures and then when the party ends at 5 everyone feeling sort of down.

Thanks for any feedback!

Re: Sat. afternoon vs. Friday night

Congrats!!!! Afternoon weddings are usually just as much fun as an evening affair but I understand what u mean about thinking people might feel down afterwards, that's actually one of the reasons I switched my time to an evening. Did you consider a Sunday twilight like 5pm to 10pm? Sunday tend to be cheaper than Fri or sat.

Thanks for your speedy reply! I also thought of the Sunday Twilight and they said the Sunday Twilight was like $30 more a head. I bet it's around the same price for a Friday night!

I'm suprised, sundays are usually cheaper but i guess it might depend on your minimum.
Was the sunday even the same price as the sunday twilight, I'm not sure what time ur rh does their sun eve reception but if it's 6 or 7, it may not be too late with your guest. Do you have a arge guest list?

I had an afternoon wedding. We did have to get up really early in order to be ready for pics. We took pics before the ceremony, so we got at the crack of dawn and were ready for our limo pick up at 9:00 a.m. Pictures started at 10:00 a.m.

As for the early reception, we had an afterparty at our hotel with out OOT guests and our close friends. It was great. More food and booze and it felt like my wedding celebration really lasted all day.

I'm having an afternoon wedding. I think friday night was more money but i wanted a saturday. I really don't want an afternoon wedding but the one at night has two weddings at the same time and the RH dosen't end until 1:00am. Thats just too late for lots of my guest. But i think that we are going to have an after party. I just hope that i have time to take pics.HTH.

I'm having a friday night wedding. We decided to do that b/c it was like a $15pp difference than a saturday night. It doesnt sound like too much at first but when you add on another 15pp, your minimum amount of people goes up as well...so financially it would not have been feasible.
We talked it over with friends and family to get feedback on if they thought friday would be an issue and everyone agreed it would be great!

We took pics before the ceremony in order to make sure that we had enough time. It also allowed us to enjoy our cocktail hour. I don't know if it is something you want to consider.

If you are getting married at somewhere other than the RH and have a gap between the ceremeony and the reception, it might not be an issue. But, if you are doing everything at the RH I high recommend taking your pics before the ceremony.

Personally i am not a morning person & would hate to wake up really early for an afternoon wedding.. also on the other hand you can have an 'after party' after the reception. If i had to choose i would choose a Friday night wedding..

Thanks for everyone's help.

I think I have to ask a few more questions about pricing before I book officially. Also, to Brod I think I believe I was at North Ritz hall the same night of your wedding for one of my best friend's weddings. Your wedding must have been in the afternoon and hers that night. How funny. Where did you have your after party since Woodbury is down the road from North Ritz.? Maybe I could check out the same hotel you used.

Thanks again!

I am a nighttime wedding girl. I am not a morning person and to have enough time for a daytime wedding I feel you would have to get up in the middle of the night. I got married on a Friday night and have been to many Friday night weddings I love the fact that you have the whole weekend to recover.

I always thought I wanted an evening wedding, but about 1/2 to 3/4 of our guests were OOTers and travelling from all over. Sooo...we decided that we really needed to get married on Saturday to allow everyone to get to LI without having to take a day off work. Then we decided to go for an afternoon wedding so that we could spend the entire day with our guests because most of them were staying over. So we had a 10:30am mass, 1-6 cocktail hour and reception, and an after party (heroes, beer, wine, snacks and stuff) from 6:30 to 12 or 1am. About 100 of our 200 guests came to the after party so we were thrilled. We literally had the WHOLE day to celebrate our wedding!! I would do it the same way all over again!!!

I'm getting married oon a Sunday morning and I had the same concerns as you. We wont have the rehearsal dinner the night before so hopefully everyone will be up and ready. I plan on having an after party at a hotel so the party just keeps on going and no one is let down. I didn't want a friday night because people will be coming after work and may be running late and traffic is sometimes bad on Fridays. I guiess there are pos. and neg. things about each day. Go with what you feel!

I am having a morning/afternoon wedding too. A lot of people do. The price difference was worth it for us, plus I like the idea that we can have an after party. The negative side is that we will have to get up very early, but i am sure that i will be so wound up that i wont be able to sleep anyway.

You just need to decide what is important to you.

First Congratulations on your engagement!

I have been to many afternoon weddings that were just as good as the night ones.
You will probably find that the Friday nite and sat day are cheaper a bit than the sat night but if you have a place to party afterwards you can keep the party hoppin. Otherwise it gives you some alone time with your DH to well do anything you want!!!

Re: Sat. afternoon vs. Friday night

i got married saturday afternoon. I LOVED it. iwas up at 5 am to be ready and have pictures taken and my Mass started at 10:30 AM... then pics after Mass and cocktail hour and reception from 1 - 7pm. (We added an hour). then it was back to the hotel for an after party with at the bar. we partied til 1 AM. I wouldn't change it for the world. i was a bride ALL day and my party lasted all day. i didn't even change out of my gown til 1 AM. i loved it and would do it all over again. people commented on how nice a morning Mass was on a Saturday and i think some of the older folk and OOT's appreciated the ability to get home the same night if they wanted to and/or avoid the cost of a hotel.

GO FOR IT! plus, you can't beat the price....

Re: Sat. afternoon vs. Friday night

I am actually getting married Friday night at the Woodbury Country Club! If you have any questions just FM me!!! There was a huge price difference between Sat. night and Fri. night. Fri. night has many benefits as well! You dont have to wait for a wedding to finish before you. You can start setting up at any time and get there any time to start getting ready! The price is less for the same party and food you would have on a Sat. night! YOu dont feel rushed to hurry since there isnt a wedding after yours!

Those are my reasons anyway! lol I also feel that sometimes people like to drink and party more when its dark! Not true for everyone though. Also, your guests will come no matter when your wedding is! They will be there! Thats what my friends and family told me when I wasnt sure about having a Fri. night wedding! Hope that helps!

Lately Friday has been the 'New Saturday' and much cheaper. Family & Friends will come no matter what- Whichever day you chose whether is a Sat- day wedding or Fri night wedding it is going to be nice.
