My DH wants this for Christmas. What do I have to get? I have no idea how it works.

DH was going to get this from my brother in law because that is what he wanted...when he researched it he found out a pretty new edition has come out and my BIL asked for the older version. He decided to just get him a gift certificate to best buy and go with him to pick it out. As a girl with no technological knowledge and having never heard of this myself that might be your best option.

DH wants XM satellite radio...there is also Sirius which will have Howard STern.....my brother works for Circuit City and gave me a special code to get a discount on it.
I know kptoys' DH has XM and he LOVES it

I have XM and Sirius in my car and personally I like Sirius better, I just find that they have more channels that I like, but XM has a better kids station that my son likes - it's really personal preference. All you have to do is buy the satellite unit and have it installed in your car (I have no idea how that is done, I just know that my DH did it) and get a monthly subscription, which really is not that much money, you can get a boom box that the unit clips into so you can listen to it at home which is kinda nice or at the beach or wherever (it can also be hooked to your existing stereo with another kit).
XM Sirius ETA: they also have stereos that can be installed in place of the factory stereo that are sirius or xm ready if you don't want the portable unit. I know - so many choices!
