******Saturday QOTD********

Are there any cultural, religious or different beliefs as to how to raise a child between you and your fh? Do you think any of these will cause conflict as you have children and have to decide how to raise them. Since being with your FH how did you decided to split holidays between the families?

Happily, FH and I and both our families are Jewish. So we have no issues on how we are going to raise of kids and over our traditions!!
YAY!
I know not everyone is as lucky tho.

The only two issues we had to compromise on as far as holidays is christmas. It is very important for me to celebrate christmas eve with my family. His family doesn't start celebrating christmas eve until midnight when they say Merry christmas almost like New years type then they eat and bounce from family member to family members house and party unti like 5am. My family starts around 6 and usually ends around 1am. Santa claus was a big part of me growing up my hubbys side not so much. If he had it his way he wouldn't have done the whole santa claus thing WELLL that wasn't happening so I won that one lol. As far as splitting christmas eve We celebrate with my family until about 11:15 then we go over to his moms house and stay until around 2:00. It's exhausting but its what we have to do.

The only other thing that was an issue is the baptism. I received my baptism, communion and confirmation. He never made his confirmation. He really wanted to have the children make their decision on whether or not to be baptized and the rest. We talked to them about the religion and what it meant and last year when my boys were 6 and 2 we baptized them. My parents weren't happy about this but we did it and it was more special because it wasn't just pushed on them they understood what it meant and wanted it.

I wouldn't say that there is a big conflict but FH went to catholic school his whole life and I have some issues with the catholic church so I don't want my children going to catholic school. FH and I have agreed that they will go to public school but I'm 99.9% sure my FIL's are going to raise helll over it!

Wow great question...Fh and i did it a little backwards and we have a kid already, we are both catholic but my Fh does not believe in organized religion so we had a huge blow out over me wanting my son to be baptised...so its a little rough, he wants to teach him from home and let him choose what he believes in what he gets older but we ultimately sad he would make all his sacraments then take it from there

Holidays are interesting also because my Fh is a chef and is only off for christmas and thanksgiving works all the other holidays thankfully my mom invited my FIL over for all holidays to make it easy on me

You FH sounds like mine with the religion. We did the same thing and let them make the decision and the did. They are so far baptized. We had the kids first too :)

FH & I are both Catholic. The part that has caused the conflict was when we found out we were pregnant FIL's wanted us to get married before we had the baby & get married at the town hall so that we'd be married before the baby was born. I wasn't going to give up the dream of having my beautiful white dress, walking down the isle, & having our reception. I know it's not the most evenly split way to spend the holidays but we usually do dinners at my house & then dessert at FH's parents house.

I was raised Jewish and FH is Catholic. I went to public school, he went to Catholic school. As far as celebrating holidays, my family is half and half and celebrates both Catholic and Jewish holidays. For Christmas Eve we go to his family, Christmas Day he goes to mine. The rest of the holidays we pretty much go to his for Catholic holidays, and mine for Jewish holidays. We haven't decided how we want to raise our kids and we do have some conflict over it. We want to expose them to both religions like I was and let them choose but I'm not big into religion and he wasn't until we went to pre-cana . He wants his kids baptised but I don't agree with it. We don't plan on having kids anytime soon so we have time to figure it out.

I'm catholic and fh is Jewish we are going to teach them both and let them figure out which in the end. Fh doesn't care if we just raise them catholic but when we have children I don't want to completely ignore one side of their family

FH and I are both catholic so the kiddies will be raised catholic...sacraments and all. We both went to public school, I teach in a public school so they'll go to public school as well.

About holidays....my FH likes my family A LOT so he LOVES spending the holidays with my family. He also says that my mom is a 1000 times better at cooking (apparently his mom didn't really cook growing up) than his mom and family so he likes coming to my family anyway

However, we do Christmas Eve with my family, and then Christmas breakfast with my parents, then Christmas dinner with his mom's side of the family. Easter is usually spent with my family down in FL, and Thanksgiving we spend with his dad in MA (all parents are divorced). My mom and stepdad love his family so they always invite them over for everything!
