SAUSAGE SNATCHER!!! (USUK2004!!)

Farah, today is your day!! A day reserved solely for the snatching of smoked meats!

Sausage Snatcher (20th Dec.) is the ninth Yule Lad to make his way down from the mountains. Once he spots a house, he heads straight to the kitchen. In the old days, he had to climb up to the rafters to get at the tasty sausages hung there to smoke over the fire. These days life is a lot easier for Sausage Snatcher - he simply opens the refrigerator door!

Now get out there and snatch yourself some sausage you dirty girl!!

Oh NO!!!!!! I don't want to be Sausage Snatcher anymore!!!! We got home from Spain last night and DH promptly tried to decorate my kitchen with the many strings of chorizo he stuffed his luggage with!!!!

I've had enough sausage in the last four days to last me a lifetime!!!!!!!!!

We had a great time, although, I have to say that travelling with DH is a great tester of one's foreign vocabulary...

Example #1: We went to Zaragoza which is a relatively small city to begin with, but he wanted to go to a wine museum that was in a monastery about 40 miles outside of the city. So we find this bus that will take us out there and we arrive around noon…only problem is the bus back isn’t until 6:45pm. There’s a half mile walk from the bus station to the monastery and OF COURSE once we get there, it is CERRADO!!!!

Okay, he says, we need a taxi!

Um..okay, I say, but even if we had the number for a taxi company, can you articulate to them a) where you want to go? and b) where the hell we are NOW!!!!

I suggest we begin to walk the 4 miles or so to the next town, so we start walking. AT this point a little beagle decides to befriend us and is alternating sniffing at my bag o' oranges very eagerly and running around us in dizzying circles. we don't get very far before DH becomes exasperated - he tells me it's a stupid idea to walk and we have to turn back. I give in because, well, Spanish roads are not very brown-suede-boots-with-3 1/2-inch-heels-and-new-BR-cream-colored-cords friendly.

Anyway, back to the little town we go. DH starts up the picturesque hill where he intends to find I don't know what. We see a little church which seems to be under construction, we start off towards it, el perro still in tow.

As we pass by a woman, she starts to yell at us in Spanish. I head back towards her - Lo siento, no hablo espanol - I try. She tells me (in spanish) no, I'm not yelling at you, I'm yelling at the dog. He's everywhere!!!!

At this point we have a nice little laugh about the dog. But then I get serious...I put on my best awful spanish accent and stumble my way through - Do you know a name or number for a taxi? We're trying to get back to Borja???

We go back and forth a little bit and then she calls a man over. They talk to one another for a minute or two before she tells me (did I mention this was all in Spanish?) - We're going to eat in Borja in about 15 minutes, we'll give you a ride.

I don't know how it happened!!! (but, I thank the good lord for that mangy little mutt!!!) But somehow I got a 70 year old Spanish woman from a little town near a monastery to drive us the 13 kilometers back to semi-civilization!!

It was very empowering!

After this adventure, I want to be your best friend!

You do realize that this situation, you and Seb are like an updated version of Fawlty Towers.

I didn't even get to Example #2 which involved me asking a grocery store clerk for a box to carry seis botellos de vino on the airplane back to London!!! (carton - with an accent on the 'on' just to be different - is the way one says box by the way...if I only knew then what I know now!!!!! )

Anyway, I did most of the speaking and went bright red every time I had to open my mouth! - he learned three words - jamon, cerveza and vino - and managed to get everything he needed!!!!!
