Save the date cards

Please help, I have a few save the date cards to send out and dont know the proper way to do it. How far in advance do they get sent out? What information do you put on it?

I'd say 6 months in advance, put the date and time and the location, even if it's only the town, Also put the hotel info!

Since yours is over the summer, I would say 7-8 months before. Since people tend to plan summer vacations in Jan or Feb. Also, if you have a lot of OOT guests it gives them time to plan.

You can do something as simple as a magnet with cute saying or a postcard. It's also nice to have hotel and travel info with it.

I sent STD cards in Dec and then a newsletter to all OOT guests in Mar. I wasn't able to get my travel info done in time to send it with the STDs.

Thanks a lot. I know of a few hotels in the area do I book a block of rooms or just give them the name of some? If I should book, do we pay for them or do the OOT guests?

Once you book your catering hall, they will give you the names of local hotels. Sometimes these hotels will give you a better rate than the group rate if they are referred by the catering halls.

As for the STD's, it is nice to include travel info with them, if possible. I am planning on sending mine out in September....

Re: Save the date cards

I just sent mine out and my wedding is next year. I sent out to only close friends and family. My cards stated our names, date and the location of the reception/ceremony. At the bottom it said 'Invitation to follow'. Many print shops have sample wording for STD's. It was fun but keep a list of people you mailed them to and how you addressed it (with guest/without guest) so it will be easier for you with the invitations. All the people that received them, loved them!!
