Save The Date debacle...

Save The Date debacle...

So, as I'd mentioned in a previous post, I got personalized pencils printed up as my save the dates. I mailed them out yesterday, using regular envelopes. Apparently I had grossly overestimated the United States postal service. Today in the mail I received a handful of them back, with the envelopes torn to hell and one of the pencils actually broken in half. They stamped the envelopes saying that they need an extra 12 cents postage. Fine, I can do that. But why destroy the envelopes??? I'm ready to just throw them in the garbage. I'm out of envelopes, I'm out of the cards I included with the pencils, and I'm just completely annoyed. I can imagine that the rest will come trickling back in the coming days. But what if they don't? Why would the post office choose to send some and not others?? I'm bewildered.

Thats horrible. Sorry to hear that. Maybe you should go to the post office where you mailed them from and inquire about your concerns.

I'm sorry to hear that you had problems with the save the dates. However, I know the envelopes go through scanning machines--which is probably what destroyed the envelopes, not the employees themselves (a lot of our company mail gets sent back unnecessarily for that reason). Did you check with the PO to make sure pencils would get through in regular mail?

USPS sucks. I have had so many problems with them in my life (okay, i sort the mail in my office so i deal with this crap every day.)

I'm so sorry!

God they prob put them through the sorting machines....I don't know why only a few would come back. You should go speak with someone at the PO and explain what happened. Maybe they can make it up to you somehow.

That really sucks, all that work getting them together just to throw them out. I'd try to salvage what's left and try to send them out again.

I'm not exactly a big fan of the post office. I've gotten more then a few things in horrible condition. Where were these envelopes going to? Anyway where far? Maybe that's why they came back?

I think it was the scanning machines. Maybe they got jammed and now they are requiring extra postage to process them manually since they won't fit through a normal scanner.....any time you mail something that requires special handling, you will have to pay extra. Most likely the others went through fine...but the ones you got back probably got jammed in the machine.....

That sounds like a possibility, cause I was talking to one of my friends last night and he said he got his fine. Hopefully most people got them and I'll only have to resend a few. It's funny though -- a lot of the ones that came back were the ones being mailed to the closest places (Levittown, etc.)

Well good luck with it!! Hopefully everyone will get them and the USPS was just a minor pain in the a$$!

sorry that happened! sounds like such a cute idea.

leave it to usps they recently just 'lost' 10 days worth of my mail, while i was away, so you're not alone in your frustrations. i might make some calls to people to see if they actually received them.

I only have problems with USPS when our regular guy is off. I get packages clearly marked DO NOT BEND crammed into my tiny mailbox by the replacement worker. Otherwise, the regular guy will hand deliver the mail (get in the elevator and bring up mail and packages) to me or at least leave a slip so I can retrieve the package (undamaged) at the post office.

The 'lost' magazine thing happens to my good friend a lot. She eventually gets them, with food in between the pages so they were obviously read by someone at the post office.

As of the pencils, they were probably sent through the machines. The post office does not like to hand cancel for some reason. Even when you ask to have invites hand cancelled, they typically don't do it - even if you pay extra.
