Save the date question

We are thinking of doing a Save the Date. Would it be tacky to send a postcard, with a photo on one side and on the back ask people to save the date?
Shoule we put it in an envelope?
How much informaiton should we put on the STD?

I'm going to do the same thing. I'm having my engagement pics done in 2 weeks and I'm going to use them on a postcard and have info on the back. I'm not sure of the wording but basically Save the Date September 20, 2003 and the location and some cute phrase. . . I won't use an envelope.

I am doing save the date magnets and they will be mailed in an envelope. They are about $1 each and it says our date, save the date, our names and a picture of us in black and white.

Magnets too, it will say 'We're engaged!!!!' then our names, a color pic of us in the middle then on the bottom Psst.....Save the date, then the date and after the dateI will also put Visit us at '.....' (our website that we're still working on)

by the way, I dont think your idea is tacky at all, I think it is cute, I'm putting mine in envelopes also b/c I don't want the mail personnell seeing my info. I'm paranoid, I guess, lol
