I am printing them right on the envelope with my printer and if that doesn't work I am using clear labels.

my sister hand wrote them (she does calligraphy .. does all my invites, thank yous & will be doing my wedding invites) and the return address was a sticker label

I really dont think the calligrapher is necessary for the STDs. Especially if you are trying to save. If not then go for it

i printed the address on white labels. i already had an entire box of labels that i use for Christmas & i really didn't feel like spending money on a box of clear labels.

I used the clear labels. Didn't have the patience to hand write them or sit there and run them all through the feeder one by one! They looked fine for the STD's.
