are they really necessary? i know they're a great idea for destination weddings (FSIL had ones for her wedding in vegas) but i'm not sure if we really need them or if its just another $150+ to spend

Re: save the dates
I am doing them, because we are not having an eparty and because our wedding is right after the holidays. So i want to do them so that people will know about it and i think they are kind of cute
its all about personal preference

in that case i think it does make sense, especially bc its close to the holidays. they say then that save the dates are almost necessary. i'm just thinking we're having an e-party in sept and our wedding is the middle of may, save the dates might not be necessary, tho i wont lie, i already have cute ones picked out, lol.

Re: save the dates
I am going to send them because our wedding is also right after the holidays---but in your cases like a may wedding or a summer wedding- I would send them as well-- because they are popular wedding months. THis gives people a heads up during the wedding season, and they wont make vacation plans either...I would send them!

Re: save the dates
I am doing them because my family is always so busy (case in point family reunion in cancun). Plus I think that they are a nice personal touch since we are not having an engagement party, also e-pics are included in my photo package so I will those for my STD's.

Re: save the dates
I agree, send them. We are not having an eparty either and we both have a lot of OOT family. My brothers didn't send them and people had already committed themselves to other weddings when they would have come to theirs.

Re: save the dates
If you have alot of OOT guests then I would send them. Or if you're getting married on a holiday weekend. It is a good idea.. but I dont feel its 100% necessary.

Re: save the dates
Do I feel they're necessary? no. I'm only going to send them because I've got a bunch of family that lives out of state and a bunch that I don't see that often.

Re: save the dates
i don't think its necessary, but i do think its a cute idea. my fridge is filled with save the date magnets from past weddings.
what about incuding the magnets as part of the favor at the engagement party? saves a stamp then. lol

Re: save the dates
we are going to do save the dates... we arent doing them just because though...I have alot of family that lives in Italy and all over the usa so it will allow them adequate time to book flights and figure out travel arrangements if they want to come...
i dont think the STD's on vistaprint are that expensive...also FH and I could orbably do them ourselves...he is such a computer wiz.
