Are you inviting 'plus 1' guests on the save the dates, or are you waiting to do that on the actual invitation? Ideally, I want invite all of my guests' significant others, but if my guests are single at the time the inviation goes out, I just want to invite them, but no guest. How should I specify this, since a lot can happen in the year between save the dates and invitations? I

I didn't put & guest on the Save the Date--I am waiting for the invites to specify guest or not.

Re: Save the dates and +1 guests
I just went through the same thing. I put ' & guest' on the save the dates then when it came to writing out the invitations i couldnt invite everyone with a guest. SO i would hold off on that.

Re: Save the dates and +1 guests
generally you don;t even out & guest/ It's not an invitation. There's no guest involved in an STD. Also, as someone said a lot can change! You never know who you will and will not be able to invite with guest, plsu if you write & guest on the STD, it like doesn't make sense b/c you're really only addressing the person, not the guest. I can't articulate what i mean..but there's no guest for theb STD, you're not inviting a guest to look at it? blah am I making sense? it's like sending an engagement announcement..there's really no guest involved!

What marymoon said - but I'll try to explain it a little differently - you're asking your friend, relative, etc. to save the date for your wedding - as she said - not an invite - so you are not inviting anyone anywhere with a guest - you're just asking someone to be aware of that date (for an upcoming wedding and invite further down the line). So, you don't need to put 'and guest.'

Re: Save the dates and +1 guests
Thanks, girls. That makes sense. I have one more question...
For the established couples that have been dating for years, can I put both names on the STD envelope? I don't want to insult anyone and it is almost certain they will still be dating for the wedding.

Re: Save the dates and +1 guests
I think dating for 'years' is ok - anything less than that, I wouldn't do.
