Hey everyone! I'm getting married July 2, 2011 which is 4th of july weekend. I was thinking I should send out the save the dates before the 4th of july this year in case anybody books vacations a year in advance. ( I know certain time shares allows you to do this). Some people told me I should wait until 8 months before the wedding. What do you guys think? Also, my photographer is giving us an engagment photoshoot and is going to be making us our STDs. Any suggestions as to where we should have our pics taken? I know its long and thanks for readying :)

Since your wedding is a Holiday weekend... you sould definitely send them out at least a year in advance

im getting married this July 3rd. We didnt book until the end of Aug last year. We verbally spread the word to EVERYONE. Then I gave STD away at my E-Party in Sept & mailed out the rest after the new year. I agree that you should send them out about a year b/f BUT if your going to I suggest you do something like a magnet. Ppl tend to lose papers or clean off their fridge every few months.

ITA!!! I'm getting married on Labor Day weekend next year and plan on sending them out VERY SOON!!

Well that depends on what you like. I gave a little insight to our epic photographer about what we like and how the wedding is going to be and based off of that....they gave us the perfect thing. A picnic with wine on the beach!!

i wouldn't send them out now but if you send themout in july or august of this year to be on the safe side you should be ok

kedra5 I really like your pic on here at the beach. Maybe a beach scene. Our photographer suggested we take a picture at place where we are getting married but i dont really like that idea. A picnic on the beach sounds nice. I want to do something casual

Our wedding is memorial day weekend 2011 and we sent our Save the Dates out at the end of March.. So about 14 months before the wedding.. People appreciated the heads up because a few book campsites and houses in the hamptons at that time every year.

i say send them out Late June
As for the photo shoot there are tons of places
You could do Long Beach, Jones Beach, Sunken Meadow or Old Westbury Gardens..the planting fields in Oyster Bay ....
You could try and take them at a zoo if you are animal lovers
or a museum

you dont have to... but advanced warning is nice... i told everyone when my date was and i still have surprise no's... and its not a holiday weekend... ( i didnt send STD's at all)
and people will loose the STD regardless if you send it in a year, 8 mos or 6 mos... it happens...

If it's a magnet I'm pretty sure they're not gonna lose it when it's stuck to their fridge.. And if they do, I don't really care.. It's not a requirement that they hold on to and cherish my save the date

I would def send them a year in advance, its a popular holiday weekend. You're smart to be thinking all this and planning ur stds now!
I took my e-pics at a beach/barn area by my photogs studio. BEEEAAUUUUTIFUL spot and we had a BLAST!
I agree w magnets. But my idea for magnets was cuz I wanted to see my face on people refrigerators when I went to their houses hahaha

I am in a similar boat. I am getting married on Father's Day and I want togive people ample time to make travel plans. We did out epics last month and plan to send out STDs next months
