I have a preliminary guest list made but I am not sure who to send my save the dates to. There are people on our list that are my parents or grandparents friends who I have never met. Should I send them to these people or just my close family and friends who I know will definitely be at my wedding. Also, what about coworkers?

What we did was we had an A and B list. A were the ones that are for sure invited and B is for people who can't fit on the A list :)
You should talk to your FH who will be on the A list, your parents if they are involved financialy you should ask them as well. Once you picked your A list you can send all your save the dates. You should be able to get few answers who cannot make it (we got 3 regrets from sending save the dates) and you can take add more from your B list.

Only send them to the people who you know will 100000000% be invited to your wedding no matter what! We invited 305 to our wedding and only sent out about 80 STDs! You never know what could happen from now till the wedding!!!!

We pretty much sent to everyone on our guest list - though we really don't have an A/B list (everyone is pretty much an A lister). We do have a handful of people though that we are kinda up in the air about so we held off on sending to those people.
