I feel like we will never get to the amount we need. FI is saving for a house, I am saving for the wedding, and I have no $ to pay my bills, I feel like it will only get worse after we buy a house.

Re: Saving $$$
Try to save every penny for now. Its really hard.
IMO saving $$ is the hardest thing to do!! FI and I are trying so hard to save, but its hard with all our expenses.
I hate to go cheap on wedding stuff, so everything cost a lot of $$!!

It's really hard to save money. at least after the wedding both of you will be paying for the house.

Re: Saving $$$
I know what you mean, it's tough!! I am definitely not able to have the wedding I wanted because we're paying for it ourselves. We made a lot of compromises and skimped where we could, like having a Sunday wedding, not getting a limo, programming all our own music so we just had to hire an MC instead of a DJ, making some of my decorations... Little things like that :) I feel extremely lucky because my FH is really good with money, and bought a house 10 years ago. We're saving to put an extension on it - there's always something, right???

Re: Saving $$$
saving can be quite a daunting task. but you have to try and stay positive.
when FH and i started saving last year, we sat down with a budget and literally figured out our salaries, bonuses, estimated tax refunds, for the next 2 yrs. (i'm marrying in feb. 2007) using that we figured out how we would be able to pay for the wedding.
perhaps you should sit down with your FI and get a realistic budget set from now till the wedding day, and figure out how much you will be able to contribute and determine whether you'll need add'l help (a personal loan?) or maybe cut some things out and such.
good luck to you!!

Yeah I basically did the same thing. FH is not so good with the saving money so I had to tell him how much he needed to contribute. I am for some reason awesome at saving money. Though I have bills to pay I get it done. It may be difficult but I agree figure out how much you can actually save and work from there.

Re: Saving $$$
You sound like you'd benefit from a financial advisor...sometimes it's best to pay off bills first because you aren't really saving if the interest on the bills is higher than on your savings account. FH and I have huge money issues so we are looking at condos first-fewer things to be responsible for exterior wise. It's not easy. We both agree that we should have just done a destination wedding or eloped/City Hall. I wanted to from the start but by the time he agreed we were too far in money wise!!
