Saving Money

Saving Money

What are you doing to cut costs for you wedding? As hard as I try, it is so hard to think of something to cut back on. I can cut back on something small like OOT boxes, but I think even that little bit of money won't make a dent.

I am the worse budgeter. I had ING automatically deduct $ from my checking acct. they day after my pacheck is deposited. It worked for me. This way you don't even see the $$ and don't miss it. Also, to cut costs, I am having my wedding in a private party room in a restaurant. Being a slightly older bride, I realized that there are more important things in life than where my wedding is held. Regardless it will be beautiful.

I also do that and am making great interest. I just don't know how to cut back on little things that add up.

Re: Saving Money

Personally, I'm saving because my RH had a all inclusive deal & includes cake, flowers, dj etc....

When my friend got married, however, we did ALOT of internet research and DIY projects. We bought the favors off a wholesale website which saved some money, she made her own centerpieces with silk flowers that she bought in bulk and did ALOT of shopping around for vendors and comparing prices to negotiate her way down to something she could afford. Best advice is to look around online and go back to vendors with offers from other vendors to see if they'll give you a break on price or throw something in for free to gain your business.

we are cutting back on DJ, invites, we're not doing menus or table numbers, and I forget what else...

There are so many ways you can cut cost. Flowers are one. you can just use candle and rose petals, and it will look great!!! also you can do a buffet instead of a sit down, that saves alot!! You can also do beer and wine and no hard liquor. bar bills really add up at the end of the night.

We are cutting out a lot of extras - bathroom baskets, OOT boxes, etc.

Getting married in Feb and saved a TON on the RH, plus each vendor has cut a few hundred off for being off season.

Trying to buy things online to save money - ebay for favors (About $2 each) and some BP gifts.

Also picked out invitations online at www.invitationsbydawn.com that are only about $1 each.

To be honest, each of these things only saves maybe $50 - $100 each. The real way to cut costs is to negotiate a great prices with your RH and cut out venetian hour, etc. You can also cut some expenses out of your honeymoon if you haven't booked yet. We are planning on staying in a condo for all/part of our trip to Hawaii so we will have a kitchen to save on breakfast/lunch costs.

we are saving a lot by getting married off season. I also have $ directly sent to savings from my paycheck. Our DJ was inexpensive, My centerpieces came w/ the hall, so we are using a non-wedding florist for bouquets. I got my shoes and veil on ebay and my favors online.

Re: Saving Money

this is not exactly a 'cost cutting' strategy, but i set up my bank account to automatically transfer $150 every sunday from my checking to savings
i figure its money that i would normally spend on junk

so far its working!! and its an extra $600 a month into savings

I'm not terribly great at cutting corners but I'm making myself. The first big thing I did was to limit my # of guests (still hard but working on it), and to book on an off day, Memorial Day. These gave me more leeway to spend the big $$ on things that mean more to me.

Also we're not using a 'wedding DJ', not for $$ sake, more b/c my family likes that real hardcore reggae music and many may not be familiar w/ it.

I hate to cut corners, and I feel like its my wedding and I want to do it up right! So, I'm not skimping on any of the things that I want for my wedding. Instead, I'm trying to save money by not shopping for myself, etc.

this is something I'm doing as well.
Everytime i see something i really want but totally dont need i think about what the money could be applied to in wedding terms. it's been helping a lot.

Also, i shop sales. So we got wedding bubbles 3 for the price of 1 stuff like that.

We also bought our main centerpiece items instead of renting them from the florist. We are using a few votive candles w/holders and a lantern on each table. we got the votive holders for less than $0.25 and the candles were SUPER CHEAP and the lanterns were less than $4 each. If we were to get these from the florist we were quoted at $20 for each lantern alone.

favors... we're not going to 'cheap out' on favors, but we're difinitely keeping in mind that most people don't really use the favors, so something small or something edible will be just fine. you can save a ton of money by not going overboard on favors.

chair covers... we're not going to use them unless our hall throws them in for free. that can save a ton of money as well. if we were to get them right now, it'd be around $6 a chair.

we're going to use the cake that the hall includes. that'll save a couple of hundred if not more.

using flowers that are in season saves money as well.

you can talk to your hall if you are having an open bar and see if limiting the brands they use will cut costs. i know some open bars only use house liquors while other's use premium brand.

I'm also saving money by making sure that you're not on my guest list
