Saw the officiant this past weekend.. whoooohoo
Ok, first I should mention my religious inclinations are a bit off the norm but they are something I feel strongly about. I needed a officiant who was religious but not pushy about it to others.
LOVE this guy!!
He was referred to me by a coworker. He's REALLY REALLY nice and down to earth He services a very multicultural Lutheran Church in Jamaica Queens. We are having him come out to the site to marry us.
He was really lay back and nice and easy to talk to. Asked us simple non-obtrusive or what I consider don't rude questions. He fully admits that in all his clerical training there was not an ounce of marriage counseling so he won’t start now. BIG BONUS in my eyes. I hear all these horror stories about the ‘drill’ some other religions give their followers and I find it offensive. This guy didn’t do that.
He did ask what our personal religious backgrounds were.. but only in a general sense. I gave honest and open answers and he was shocked. Jim gave his as well. Then he asked the one question that got my blood to simmer.. “Ok, then.. what will your children be?” My answer after a obvious pause and a glare to Jim… “Ours”.
He let it go, wisely.
25 minute service. I get to pick out this robes that best fit my décor (don’t ask how THAT came to be). I even had him remove the reference to God when speaking to the audience. I really hate pushing any type of religion on others and it was part of the ceremony to say “ Do you (the guests) – By God’s Grace – promise to… blah blah”. I had to tell him there will be no requirements of my guests to swear or promise by any deity.
He fumbled a little but understood and struck it from the ceremony with little fuss and went on. MAJOR MAJOR BONUS for me!
Im so happy!!!! And best part is .. only $200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
