Saw War of the Worlds (loved it) but heard the dumbest thing..

at the end of the movie there was a group of college kids behind us who we had to listen to blab before the movie.

anyway... they were talking about the movie 'did you like it?' and 'wow' then one was like 'Uhmm I don't get it' Ok so this other one tries to explain.. and I swear this is what I heard
(without giving away too much if you know HG Wells the original War of the Worlds or the remake known as Independence Day - if you don't then.. CLOSE THIS WINDOW)

Ok, this is what we heard

AIDS killed them cause we have AIDS and aliens don't. Get it?

the reply

OOOOOH yeah that totally makes sense, Im so glad you explained it because I didn't get until you said that.

I was so ticked off ..

How stupid!!

The movie was great btw. I loved it.

Oh and as trivia.

The remake 'Independence Day' which all true die hard Sci Fi fans believe is completely based on HG Wells War of the Worlds to a 'T'. then don't you find it oddly strange and humorous that 'War of the Worlds opens on 4th of July weekend?

ah but I ramble...

HG Wells story is that the aliens could not handle our bacteria at all.

Not just AIDS since the original story is much older than that.

It's just the idea that we has humans survive many bacteria day to day. We are 'born' to them if you will. They live on this planet and are unique to this planet because it is after all an ecosystem.

So we don't kill the Aliens.. the planet does.

Im a sci fi geek so I was enthralled by this story when I was a kid and the story of how the first time it was told HG Wells did it as a joke on radio (no TV) back then and how some folks who missed the beginning didnt know it was a joke and some even killed themselves believing it was true.

Didn't Orson Wells do it on the radio? I remember hearing it when I was very young (obviously not when it first came out ) and it scared the crap out of me!

I thought the Tom Cruise movie was awesome. I was so stressed out after it though! The suspense killed me (I hadn't remember the story at all from the original version).

You mean the voice over by Morgan Freeman wasn't clear enough? I dont ask sarcastically, because I knew the sotry of course... so it made sense to me what he was saying.

No cigar for others?
