Saying 'I love you' to MIL

Saying 'I love you' to MIL

Do you tell your mother in law you love her? She used to say it to me, and I skirted around it bc I didn't want to say it back...I didn't love her at the time...we were on shakey ground. But now I'm trying to move on...and I'll say 'love you' sometimes to her...but she won't say it back. LOL...karma I suppose.

LOL Yes I do. MIL is extremely affectionate and so am I. She may drive me nuts sometimes, but I still love her!

When FH and I are leaving her house she'll say 'Love you guys' and occasionally I'll say it back but I don't outright say it.

My sister in law and brother have been married for over 2 years and she just recently started saying it to my mom....I honestly think it's whatever you're comfortable with.

LOL! FH whole family has this unspoken rule, always always always say 'I LOVE YOU' or 'LOVE YOU' when leaving or getting off the phone because you just never know when the next time you'll get to say it. So FMIL has been saying it to me for a while, --even before we got engaged and I always just went along with it.

We are like this too and for the same reason! With FH, I can't leave the house or let him leave without a final kiss goodbye, even if we already kissed 10 times because you never know what might happen. I've even made him get out of the shower for a goodbye kiss! LOL

Sometimes. It started right when FH's dog passed last fall. She was an absolute mess along with the rest of the family. Obviously I was there for them and did a lot after they lost their furry family member. She out of the blue told me she loved me and I said I love you too.
It doesn't happen often, and sometimes makes me feel awkward, but love is love!

We always say a quick 'love ya' when saying goodbye/goodnight in person but not on the phone generally. She actually said it to me very early in FH and I's relationship so I was caught off guard and just said it back. Lol since then I roll with it.

I kind of say 'I love you' to pretty much everyone I know, so saying it to FMIL wasn't too much of a stretch. But it took her a few years to say it to me. I think it depends with every person.

We dont say it. We dont have a good relationship and we hardly ever talk. She probably is not even coming to the wedding.

FMIL passed away and we never exchanged those words to one another beforehand but I can say that I do love her.

FMIL speaks a little bit of broken english but she tells me she loves me all the time.. so does FFIL! lol and FSIL.. I guess I've won them all over haha.. It was weird saying it back the first few times and although I'm not a very affectionate person I feel like hey it's how we feel! It's nice to know it too..

I feel bad saying this, but in the 9+ years I've been with FH, I've never said I love you to his mom. They are not super close and I'm not a super affectionate person. If she were to say it to me (IF she comes to the wedding), I guess I would roll with it though.

Before she became my MIL, I think she was trying to feel me out as my mother and I have no relationship and she did not know what to do. The weird thing is she did not have a good relationship with her mother either. By the grace of God we get along great and she actually bought my dress as my mother is not around. During this wedding planning it was extremely hard as I really did not know how to embrace all what she was doing for me but my FH said that his mom adores me and admires me dearly. I count my blessings everyday as it brightens them and am so blessed to have with this woman what I did not have with my own. I believe we both are happy as to how our relationship has evolved. I say say I Love you =)
