Is anyone else scaling back on the amount of money they are spending on Christmas? I feel like a a-hole not spending as much money I always do but this year, and prob next, is just not do-able. Is anyone else having this internal arguement?

Re: Scaling back on Christmas?
I'm scaling back as well. The only person that we will probably get more than one gift for is FH's son because he's a kid and we want him to enjoy his Christmas. I told FH that the gifts we get each can't be more than $50. I wanted this year to be different because we have to pay for this wedding. I don't want to focus on getting the big gifts that we're used to; I want it to be more sentimental.

Re: Scaling back on Christmas?
I am definitely scaling back this Christmas. Last Christmas I splurged on FH because I bought him a PS3.
He's a gamer and his only other console had just died, plus he loves to watch movies (we love to together) and he was without a DVD player.
So one gift fixed it all. It's used soooooo much.
But because of car repairs and saving for wedding/home - I can't do that this year. I hate that feeling but... I just can't do it.

No argument here...scaling back for sure. For Christmas we are buying each other this: The deposit on our engagement party. For the next year and a half it's save, save, save!

Re: Scaling back on Christmas?
Ya we are scaling back too!! I only did our parents and my kris Kringle that's it!!! And we are not spending a lot. We can't afford it. I feel cheapbut everyone has to understand that weddings aren't cheap.
Also another thing-- his cousin is having a destination wedding and we aren't going. It's too much money and we can't afford it. It's a lot of money and that money for that trip would be the doen payment for our honeymoon.
People have to understand and as long as me and FH understand that's all that matters. No one is helping us pay for it so they can't say anything. :)

Were at a 50 dollar budget for each other this year. Also were on a strict budget for gifts for the family and co-workers.

Yeah we are def scaling back too... I hope everyone understands but we are also paying for the wedding ourselves. Just giving small gifts to each other and immediate family.

Re: Scaling back on Christmas?
Unfortunately I haven't much. I've been spending $ I shouldn't and haven't put anything into our wedding savings. I can't wait for the shopping to be over (I'm almost done). The only thing I've done is to make sure I haven't payed full price on anything. I've been shopping with coupons and sales so that has at least save me lots of $. Next year though, will definitely be different.

I'm right there with you! FH and I are giving our friends ornaments with a little note that says we want to show our love and appreciation Saving a few dollars instead of going crazy looking for expensive gifts

Re: Scaling back on Christmas?
I normally don't spend a whole lot to begin with, but this year with all the planning, I haven't really gotten my shopping done early on like i normally do. Normally I would be done by now. I am the 'I found it, I need to get it now cause its perfect' kinda gift giver and this year I just haven't been thinking anything other than wedding so I haven't really found things to give. Not the happiest about it.

Re: Scaling back on Christmas?
FH and I are definitely scaling back on this Christmas this year! I love Christmas shopping and finding that perfect gift for everyone, but we just can't do it with the wedding coming up. Luckily our family understands.
