Hi girls I just called my church and have an appointment to meet with the pastor this Saturday to lock in my date. I already know the date I want because I booked my hall a few days ago and am officially putting a deposit down tonight. I'm a little scared about the order that i did things. Basically I've heard that you're supposed to book the church first but I didn't want to get locked in a date with the church and then not get the hall I wanted if that date was already taken. So what do i do when he asks me if I have the hall already? Do i come clean and say yes or tell him i've just looked around but haven't officially booked anything as of yet? How did u girls handle this?

Re: scared about booking the church
I felt bad totally lying flat out the my priest. So I told him we had no choice but to book the hall because they would not hold the date any longer (not exactly true, but close enough). It did take about 3 weeks for my priest to meet with me though after I called so I guess I kinda had that leeway. Good luck!!!

Re: scared about booking the church
I would just say that you booked the hall already - thats what most ppl do anyway. I have to wait until the end of Jan for my church - bc 'they dont have the 2007 calendar yet' - so do they expect me not to get any other planning done bc they dont have the calendars?

I ahve to wait as well before I book my church beacuse they don't have the 2007 calender as yet but i booked my hall and other vendors as well. That should not be a problem.

We booked our hall first, but the priest didn't even ask us if we booked our hall or not.

don't worry...I booked my hall first and didn't tell the priest. They didn't even have a 2007 book for them to even write my date in... so I am sure you will be fine.

Re: scared about booking the church
I booked our hall in the summer and we still haven't booked the church yet. My FSIL had her hall for over a year before she booked her church.

we were honest...but he understood..he said he would have been surprised if we hadn't booked our hall yet because he understood that they go quickly...i'd just be honest if he asks..i mean there's no reason for him to get upset

I live in Brooklyn so I won't be going to a church close to Russo's. It's not that bad because I live about 30 mins from Russo's so it shouldn't be terrible for my guests to get there after the ceremony. Are you having your ceremony in Queens?

I thought I was supposed to try to find the reception hall first and then call the church...oh boy, I'm not doing so well figuring out all this wedding stuff by myself (glad I found you girls!!) I just put in a call to the church....

Re: scared about booking the church
We met with the priest before looking at reception halls and say that things were pretty much open at the church (its an elderly community, there are very few weddings there) and put a hold on a few dates. We did end up booking the hall before officially getting word from the church that it was okay. The priest when we were meeting with him didn't ask about reception.
Bottom line, just be honest, it shouldnt' be a problem...

Re: scared about booking the church
I met with my priest first to get the date and then we went searching fpr the hall. I knew I wanted to be married at the church I grew up at, so we wanted to make sure we had the date before we went searching for halls. It all depends on your church and the relationship you have with your priest.

Re: scared about booking the church
I booked my church first - (about two weeks ago), before anything else - but my church is very popular for weddings - the 2007 book was already in action - when I went looking at halls, I ended up changing to a sunday, and I had to change the date at my church, but that wasnt a problem. Just be honest, they are priests, they have to forgive!!
