It's a really weird feeling knowing that I am going to be starting my own family. I will officially begin my own little family when I marry FH. It's kind of hard to let go of just being a kid. I'm a little scared. Has this happened to anyone else? Am I being ridiculous? I should throw in that I am moving out for the first time since I was away at college as well, so that makes me a little extra nervous because I am not only getting married, but leaving my home for the first time. Help! Calm me down, haha!

Scared to be an adult...
I was terrified!! Fh and I just bought a house in March-until then I lived with my parents, never went away to college or anything ( I'm 25)
Moving out was scary, and fh and I want kids right away, so it's all happening very fast-but it all works out
Honestly, I have never been as happy as I have been the past 3 months-life is seriously wonderful
And with me, you're talking about buying a house, getting engaged, getting married, and hopefully getting pregnant within a 6 month time frame!

I know exactly how you feel! Your not alone. When i first moved out last year with my FH i was terrified. I was sadden to leave my family however, at the same time i was excited to begin my new life with the love of my life. Moving out has made me appreciate my family more and has made the relationship between my mother and sister stronger...in fact, i see my family more than when i lived with them.lol. Don't worry! Everything will work out...

Renrico-What you're feeling is ME in a nutshell. I started freaking out right before we got engaged (like, before I even knew he was proposing to me )... I am scared to death of all of these changes!

you girls are awesome! It really does make me feel better to know others feel this way. All my girl friends moved out long before they were in serious relationships, so it was only one change. Like you guys were saying, it's a lot...for me it's the move to the city (long island girl born and raised), the marriage, that planning, and I am looking for a new job. It is a lot of change and it is very overwhelming. I am not doing the prego thing just yet, haha. I am not ready for that, but I am so happy that you are! That's great '6weekstobliss'.
I am so happy there are others out there that feel this way, haha!
Renrico, you are definitely not alone! I'm moving in with my fiance next week and it will be the first time since college that I've lived away from home.
While I'm very excited and have been wanting this for a very long time, I am also very nervous about it. Having never lived anywhere else before (other than the city for a year), everything around me is familiar and that won't be the case in a few days. Plus I'm going to miss my cat! (She's really too old to adjust to a move, so she's staying with my parents.)
But it's all very exciting at the same time and in the end, you want to have complete control over your life, so try to think of it as the beginning of a new chapter instead of the ending to a book. :)

You're definitely not alone. I moved in with my FH in March. I was going crazy living with my parents. I moved out twice before getting engaged. I moved 700 miles away and then like 10 miles and I was fine. Then the week I was supposed to move, I was sick to my stomach and really started missing my parents.
I'm fine now. I don't see my parents as much, but it really put my relationship with them in perspective. I'm very excited now. It gets better in time :)

Scared to be an adult...
FH and I moved out together about a year ago. We are both 23, but we knew we had to do something drastic to stay together after college because otherwise, we would be long distance (I am from LI, he is from north of Albany). We picked a spot in the middle of New York state, far from both of our families but somewhere in the middle of both. I have to admit, I hate leaving my parents house every time we go for a visit. I am young, whats the rush? But then, we get back to our little apartment and I always have a moment. It will sneak up on me, we will be sitting on the couch flipping through the channels eating some popcorn and it will hit me- how comfortable and how happy I am. Are we growing up fast? Yes, definitely. But I love him, and I know I wouldn't want to be anywhere else in life. You will feel the same. It is hard to leave your first family, but you are doing it because the idea of your new family is even better.
Sorry to get all sentimental, but I understand so well what you are all saying and if you haven't moved out yet, you need to know that it will be worth it!!

Scared to be an adult...
we moved in together about 3 years ago - thank god we still get along :) it is scary but i was already living on my own before then. im also a little older than most of you, it seems. when he moved out of his parents house he was just starting to get on his feet - and im so impressed with how far he's come - and how independant and self-sufficient he is now - he wasnt when we first started dating. when we got engaged 2 years ago i knew that he would be able to take care of both of us in the future.
my hardest part is that im extemely close with my mom. its going to be hard for me learning to seperate the two - my husband and my mother.
as far as buying a house goes - i cant wait. ive been ready for about 5 years now - and we'll get there. just need to save a little bit more. but i cant wait for that part of adulthood. as for kids...im 30 now... and i want to wait alot longer haha.

I'm 29 & have never moved out of my house (not even for college!!)... I always figured I wouldn't move out until I was married. I'm just a big baby!!!! The nice part is that my fiance' is a cool with living close to my parent's house so it's not as much of a shock for me. I figure I will be there every day anyway

It is always scary when you move into a new phase of life. I would say think of it like this you have been lucky enough to have a place to never have to move out of and now you get to build a place for your children to have that same safety and comfort. And remember now that you are moving out you dont have to move on..our parents home (usually) still can be a place of great comfort!

It's really hard at first but now that I've been home while house hunting, I'm dyinggg to have my own place again. The change was very hard the first time I went through it - my mom is so great and easy to live with - but slowly you get adjusting to have YOUR own life and if FH and you agree on most things, it's not that hard!

I've been a so-called adult for several decades now. I'm still waiting to feel like a grown up!

Scared to be an adult...
Oh My God, I feel so much better. I felt like such a baby. I was kind of embarrassed to even post anything at first about it. It feels good that everyone has or is going through it.
I'm 26 and feel like I am eternally 21 in my head, haha. Time goes by so much faster when you get older...it's crazy. I have been with FH for almost 7 years now and known him for 8. How is it that I am someone who has been in a relationship for more than a 1/4 of my life w/ 1 person and I am getting married? I feel like I am supposed to be a kid and live with my family forever. I was even sad when they were planning a 'family' vacation and I wasn't included. I felt left out. It's hard to move on. I am so excited to live with FH cause it has been looooong enough, but it's still hard.
So I have come to the conclusion that you guys are going to be my therapists, haha. And I will gladly be yours! I love you guys!!!

Scared to be an adult...
That's so funny you posted this because I am absolutely terrified of becoming a real adult and starting my own family! I have actually been thinking of this alot lately. I have never moved out of my parent's house, even went to college and stayed home. I am very close to my Mom and I'm gonna be so sad when I'm not going to be home all the time. FH lives in an apartment with a roommate and has been on his own for 6 or 7 years. And I'm terrified of having my own family. But I know FH will be an awesome dad and will understand if I want to run home whenever I need to. I'm scared but excited to finally become an adult. If that makes sense lol!

I know what you mean. DH and I don't feel like adults at all. Just this month I went house hunting with my little sister and was afraid to go inside the house. I actually said I want an adult with us and she looked at me saying you are one. I will think of myself as a kid even when I am 90.
