hey less then 2 weeks to go and i'm freaking out already about flying? Anyone have any suggestions should I go to my doc and get zanax and does it really work. I really will have panic attacks and make myself sick so it has to be strong...

seriously, i couldn't fly without xanex. i never used to, but since we got engaged, i've been flying from AZ to the east coast (thanks wedding) at least once a month (3 times in april alone!) and the wedding still isn't until sept! i have always been a nervous flyer, but it never got that bad. however, the first few flights i took back to NY to start wedding prep, i freaked out everytime - silently crying to myself, hyperventalating and shaking uncontrolably. i said to myself there was no way in hell i was going to be able to do all the flying i need to do if i have aniexty attacks that badly. so i called my dr, asked for some xanex and now flying is awesome. i get the best sleep!
personally, i'm not a huge fan of rx drugs for mind-related issues, but it's made a HUGE difference for me, expecially because i fly so frequently!

I am telling you--RUN!!! dont walk--to your dr to get some Xanax---It works amazing, its the only way I fly.. Trust me--I am going to Hawaii on my honeymoon in mere days, and knowing that I have the meds totally helps. I have panick attacks on planes,elevators, tunnels,etc--you get the picture, and this helps. Good luck

I am in the same boat as you. Actually I would not even fly for my honeymoon so you are better then me. But I cant get on a plane without having some drinks. I found it works for me when xanex did not. I have tried it ALL. I sound like a lush but I am really not I know it ***** and I feel your pain. Get yourself a couple shots and you wont even care!!!!!! Sounds horrible

A ton of my friends have this issue & xanax ALWAYS does the trick. Definatly go to ur Dr!

i absolutely HATE flying, like i worry so much i make myself sick the days leading up to it. I will definately be going to my Dr. to get some xanax before the trip. (I used to get really bad panic attacks, and xanax was such a huge help in getting through them)

I haaaaate flying... but fly quite a bit and I notice that I freak myself out so much before hand and even have nightmares about crashing, but as soon as I'm on the plane I am so excited about vacationt hat I forget I'm scared..especially when FH is with me. I've never taken anything for it though, I just try to keep myself busy and distracte dneough so I don't focus on every little sound and bump

I don't mind flying too much, but the thought of flying to St. Lucia is starting to freak me out a little bit. I was thinking about having some drinks.

Ladies who take xanax....My FH is terrified of flying too and is going to get that before we go...do you have any side effects of the Xanax? Do you feel tired or anything afterwards?

my fh got xanax scrip now for the hm he is terrified and the stupid fool watch some show about a plan that caught fire before leaving the runway and all the people in the middle of the plane died........i have the patch for the ship cause i am not a water freak...the doctor gave him 4 pills only

I'm so sorry you hate flying so much! Xanax could help but I found that educationg myself about the little bumping sounds , the landing gear going up and own, flaps coming out to slow the plan down, helped a lot. Soemtimes taking the mystery away makes it less scary. FH flies private planes for fun and he was able to explain a lot to me.
This book recieved good reviews on amazon and maybe helpful
a little over a month ago i flew to miami- i was PETRIFIED NO JOKE!!! Like i mean really realy scared and still am i got like a valium from my doc and i was OK YOULL BE FINE

I agree with the medication thing.... but I will also say this:
I grew up flying to europe on a regular basis. I was fine until age 12, when I didn't fly for a couple years. The first flight after that gap, I got very anxious about take-offs and landings.
I continued to fly, being very anxious on the plane until my late teens.... As I continued to fly, it got less and less severe until it just subsided.
Basically, flying does more to aleviate the fear than anything else. I imagine a pill crutch will help you with the first few flights....but the permanent relief comes from continually confronting your fears...

My HM to Hawaii is coming soon and I will not leave w/out some xanax as I too suffer from panic attacks time to time. Xanax makes me fall asleep and I usually wake up refreshed - I'm hoping that this super-long flight will help me get over this fear and panic like PortJeffBride suggested!

Another fan of xanax here I HATE flying, having major panice attacks two weeks before and on till I land. Xanax works wonders, however my doc said that xanax is very addictive, and recommended Nirovan. I will try it when I fly for my HM

She still gets little jitters but she can actually get on an airplane now.

I took two valium when I went in a closed MRI and I could care less. Will probably do the same thing when I take my 9 hour flight to Italy for HM.
Not sure what the difference between valium and xanex is but they're probably similar.
