School Busses?

School Busses?

Are you providing transportation for your OOT guests to and from the hotel to the reception? We defnitely want to, but are hoping for a lower cost alternative (plus we may have close to 75 people). Has anyone thought of using a school bus? I'm not sure of even how to get in contact with ones that would be reliable, clean and air conditioned (in JULY)!!!! Hoping someone on here has a good idea!

TIA

Well the hotel by our RH offers shuttle service. Find out if your Rh will offer the same first.

Your best bet would be to use any resources you have in school districts to see if they can help you out. Like a principal or other administrator. If not, then I would call the board of Education closest to you to see if they can help you out. FH and I were going to do this through a superintendent friend of ours but the ride was too long from the hotel to the RH and we wanted bathrooms on the buses. I must say, a school bus is a great alternative though!!!!

My sister did this. She and my Mom work for Huntington Coach ( a big school bus company on Long Island) so it was really cute. The girls she worked with even decorated the buses!!! I cannot remember how much she paid but they did give her a discount because she worked there.

Let's see what I can remember. The large mini buses hold around 16 people. The buses she had were all brand spanking new and spotless. No rips in the seats and they even had that 'new car' smell. They have to have working air condititioning becuase many of the children have special needs. Also, some of the buses have radios with AM/FM but not all so you should check on that.

Believe it or not - they were really clean and everyone was giggling in them saying how they ahd not been on a school bus in years. Also, shuttle services will charge you per run, whereas you can rent the bus for the whole night and it will make as many runs as you need.

Call Huntington Coach. They had a yard in Northport, one in Huntington and one in Bayville and are listed in the phone book. If you want my Mom's last name FM me and you can say that she referred you. They've worked there for years and have a nice relationship with the owners. It can't hurt.

That is a great idea. I got a luxury bus from Coachman limosine (Frank is my contact). it is not a school bus b/c I didn't think of it but it is a bus and I rented it for the night (3:30- 1am) for likke $1400. The coach bus (not limobus) is less expensive.

Good luck.

Thanks! I am giving my FH the job of figuring this all out. I will FM you for the Coach company. THat would be great if I could say your mom referred me! Thank you!
I am thinking of calling the district I used to work for before I moved up to Westchester, but I am wary about using them because I have been on field trips and have never been on a brand new bus! I don't want my guests to sit in ripped seats on a smelly bus! If I get any good info I will post it for you girls who are interested! I actually found a number of other numbers in a post on here from december 2004. when FH does his homework I'll get back to you!
