I found a mobile groomer who works on a beautiful truck outside our house. I was delighted that Scooby would not have to sit in a cage for a few hours waiting for his turn. He doesn't look like a maltese any more but he is finally neat and clean looking. We are really starting to like his new look.
Thanks everyone...and I'm so glad to read this. I hated thinking that he lost his identity because I found it overwhelming to keep combing his hair.
Now I feel compelled to post his 'before' picture. Just don't think I was a neglectful mom. I took it just after he was running around the yard and I didn't bother to comb him because we were expecting the groomer.
He looks fantiastic & you can still tell very easily that he is a maltie.
My uncle also has a maltie & he keeps him in a puppy cut too!

Re: Scooby's haircut
Thank you.
Isn't that before shot pathetic? I don't know why I'm not too embarrassed to post it. Maybe we can start an extreme make-over thread for dogs.

Re: Scooby's haircut
My parents have a Bijon and they have the same problem! Their little girl loses some of her identity with each haircut....but that hair gets so knotty!
Your puppy is adorable!

Thank you so much. I'm sure there must be some good products available that would make the hair silkier and easier to comb. I finally stopped trying out different conditioners and detanglers. Scooby's hair turned like coarse cotton almost over night and he had knots all over the place. I hear that happens a lot when they are about a year old. My kids weren't thrilled with us getting it cut. That was the reason we took an ugly before shot - to convince them we weren't being aggressive for no good reason. Not as if I have to answer to them, right? LOL!

Re: Scooby's haircut
Your dog's haircut is nothing compared to what my parents had to do! Their poor little dog got shaved almost to the skin! My father brushes her everyday....but it apparently needs to be done several times a day with all of her running and jumping!

Bijons are adorable dogs. Do you have a picture to put up? I'm sure the hair will grow in fast. At least, that is what I was told.

I found this one of her when she has hair.....you can see why she needs it cut so often!
