Has anyone bought a Scott Kay ring? We went to look at rings at Bailey Banks & Biddle at 3 separate malls (this is 1 of the stores that carries his line) and we saw a setting (w/o center stone) w/ 2 side stones tcw. 28 and was quoted at $1830. We also went to an independent jeweler that carries the line and saw the same setting w/ a tcw of .67 for $1900. How can these this be? The independent jewelers was over 2x the tcw of the mall stores ring and only $70 more than the malls stores tcw of .28. They were both Scott Kay rings in platinum and the exact design. We were also thinking about getting a Scott Kay replica of that ring in white gold and put the money we saved from buying the platinum into purchasing a larger center stone. Any and all advise is appreciated. Any outstanding jewelers that you would recommend on LI? I love the Scott Kay ring, but if someone can 'copy' the design w/ a minor alteration (legal they have to)for cheaper that would be great.
On a side note, I wrote a date in my profile, but honestly we haven`t set a date yet - not even engaged. I had no choice but to enter a date. We would like to have it around that time though.
Thank you for your help.

Another Question
Has any ever dealt w/ Maddaloni Jewelers on Jericho Tpke. and if so, how was your experience? They seem very nice and accomadating. This is such a major decision, I know that the woman isn`t really supposed to be involved in selecting the ring, but my boyfriend really wanted to include me. We would like to make a decision soon so I would really appreciate some advise/input/suggestions from those that have been there done that.
Thank You

The costs at malls are jacked up. Don't buy from a mall, you can get a better deal/diamond from a private jeweler. Many brides on this site got their rings from the diamond district in NYC. Good luck.

I agree with Heather, she's right, also there may have been a price difference because of the quality of the side stones. One store might have had a much better quality, than the other. Also, if you haven't done so already, educate yourself on the 4c's a larger diamond doesn't necessarily mean better quality. Good luck in your search!

thanks for the advise. scott kay only sells g-vs/vs1 diamonds, so i know there are of excellent quality. we are buying the center stone separately from a friend of the family. we are very interested in the scott kay design and searching for the right place to purchase it. the jewewler that we are purchasing the center stone from only sells jems. he doesn`t sell or design settings. we have decided on a 1.25-1.50 center stone and need to find a setting that we like. again, i am really just interested in scott kay or a replica of the design. someone must own a scott kay ring, or suggest a jeweler that can copy this design. check out his website www.scottkay.com, the rings are beautiful. the one we are interested in is the ring with the 2 round side stones.
Thanks and please help me! I am getting so anxious.

I know Maddaloni Jewelers, a friend got her ring from there. She said she found out afterward that the ring was way over priced and she told me to stay far away from there. If you live in the area, I went to the Commack Jewelry Exchange on Jericho Tpke, right where the flea market used to be by Sterns. They have about 10 vendors there and they are all helpful. We got the engagement ring and the wedding rings there. Good luck!

I`m sorry I can`t help you with the Scott Kay design specifically, but I will say to be aware of the quality of side stones. good cut & vs 1 isn`t 'excellent' quality. but it`s 'very good' quality diamonds. a good cut is middle of the cut spectrum, not top. and for the most part, same with VS1. you really may be better off finding a jeweler who can replicate the scott kay design (many jewelers in the diamond district do this), and choosing quality side stones. if anyone on this board has a jeweler who does custom designs (and i`m pretty sure I have read that some have custom designed rings), they may be able to refer you to someone. good luck!

There is another company that makes rings that look just like Scott Kay but at less of a cost. The jewelry line is Briana and I found it at Kay Cameron Jewelers in Sayville. There is an ad in the current issue of Modern Bride. All of the rings are platinum and 18K and look beautiful. Good Luck!!

We made a copy
I also fell for one-- round stone with 4 princess(2 on each side)
SK--make the same ring in slightly different sizes and unless you look at the tag numebrs sometimes you can get confused--
my princess are .60 ctw and there was a nother smaller one taht looked identical
we found a jeweler who had one and he made the mold from that--they dont have to change a thing--well maybe they do but my jewleler did not-- we had problems with him so i wouldnt necessarily recommend him--- keep in miund that if you do get the origianl and then later on you want the matching band they are significantly higher--
just my opinion
