Scott or any other car people...

Scott or any other car people...

I took my car in for an wheel alignment and tire rotation because it was pulling to the left and shaking a bit when you go over 60. Well it is still doing it!
Before I call the shop tomorrow like a raging lunatic... is there anything else it could be? Maybe it needed something else.

TIA

What kind of car? How old is the car? How many miles on it? This could be several things.

Has the car been in an accident recently? If so, the front axle could be bent or the CV joints compromised in some way.

It could be time to replace your tires.

You could have a warped brake rotor.

Also where did you take your car to be fixed? Some places are known to offer alignments without even having the necessary equipment.

oh boy.... tons of stuff to check out!

Its a 96 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, 74,000 miles, no accident. Fairly new tires.

How can they do an alignment without the equipment!!!!!! I hope this is not the case.

Brakes seem fine... but the front end could have taken a beating over the winter with the snow.

Thanks!

They say they do them; but don't. Back when I had a Dodge, my dealership did this to me.
They see a woman and instantly think... dingbat.

Call the shop where you had it done and explain the situation.... tell that they did not correct the problem, they will most likely offer for you to come back and have another crack at it... if this does not correct it, then make sure you report them to the better business bureau.

I would recommend a place to you, but unfortunately my mechanic just retired.

Hrmm..

Could be a control arm problem
Hubs & Bearings

They should have rotated, balanced and aligned your tires. Its not that hard to check.

My old Mercury only shook over 50mph and it ended up being my control arm, hubs & bearings (COSTLY). I'd see no need to rage. Act like the stupid female, I always do, sugar works better sometimes, but I wouldnt let them charge you more and I'd want to know if they felt this 'shaking' when they test drove your car. IF you feel ify about them, take your car elsewhere for a second opinion. If they didnt align your car the other place should EASILY figure it out.

Shaking usually isnt from alignment as much as pulling is though.

A place I've so far had a good experience (no playing bs on women) has been Superior Auto Car in Uniondale. Tiny little joint, but I know my car better than I do ANYTHING and I am extremely possessive about. I act like a stupid female when I know I can and these guys NEVER tried to pull one over on me. Even saved me money more than once.

Good Luck

Ok thanks guys...

I called the shop and he said it def needed the alignment but the shaking sounds like a bad tire or that it needs to be balanced. He said he couldn't really test drive it at a high speed because of the weather, which it was misty and rainy all day that day. So in any event he said bring it back in and he will take another look at it. I hope its nothing major!

Shaking can also occur if your brake rotors are warped. Does it happen all the time?

Nope... just over 60 mph
