Scotto Bros/Erga's Tasting UPDATE (long, sorry) (Chateau Briand, Fox Hollow, etc.)
Ok ladies getting married at one of the halls serviced by Erga's: as to our planned group tasting . . .
First, the woman who handles the wedding cakes, who was supposed to confirm with me that the chosen date would work has not called back to confirm. Without going into too much detail, I'm not too surprised but also assure you I don't think this is a reflection on her, our cake lady AT ALL. They are a busy bakery, and I'm not sure her idea of the 'after closing' and '15-10 brides' sat well with management.
Second, she is the sweetest, and spent a long time on the phone with me explaining the difference between 'rolled fondant' and 'fondant', etc., so I have NO problem dealing with her . . . . she is not a 'newbie' and she knows what she's doing.
Third, an '08er with lots of good info. advised that even at a tasting, they give you cupcakes with fillings on top, so you can taste the combination, but that's about it (which I have since found out is not uncommon -- you get mini-cakes, or portions of cakes sold regularly, or the cupcake thing).
So . . . .bottom line, I'm so disappointed to say I don't think the group tasting will work in a way that doesn't inconvenience the brides and/or the bakery, and I wish we could've done it, but UGH, not happening. It is a rough plan, since they aren't that big either, and aren't open crazy hours.
That being said, maybe we could all 'pair off' and get a tasting buddy to plan to go with, so we get not just the FH's opinion, but at least another bride/couple's opinion . . . .
Sorry ladies, I wanted it to work, but I also don't want to drive this lady or her boss nuts, when they have to make our cakes!!!
I would mention, if I were a 2009 bride, when you book a tasting, that we hoped to all come in in a group, but realized that wouldn't work for the bakery . . . . might make them appreciative for 'other requests' we might all have. If there is a card to play, there is no reason for us to use it on forcing a group tasting when we can all benefit individually, perhaps, by letting them know we appreciate them considering the idea . . . . . .
