Scratch my Oheka question....

I am looking for a wedding location. FI's family is mostly in Staten Island and mine is in Nassau County. I want something different, something like Oheka, but not so far out east. FI doesn't want to get married in NYC though. Any suggestions?? I think it is time for me to stop slacking....

The Carltun is one of the most beautiful places for a wedding...imo. Everything is top notch and in ways, I think it far exceeds Oheka. (I wasn't as impressed with Oheka as I thought I would be.)

Harrison House is also beautiful...the upstairs (after-hours) bar is supposed to be very inviting/comfortable.

Vanderbilt Mansion at Dowling College is gorgeous and the caterers (Lovin' Oven) are supposed to be outrageous.

I just feel bad enough making his family come to Long Island let alone suffolk.

Thanks for the links girls, I am going to check them out now.

Some Manhattan sites.

Oheka is about 40 mins from Midtown - it's just over the Nassau border on the north shore. I really wouldn't consider it 'out east'!

well FI and I live pretty much as far west on LI as you can. The Carltun looks gorg though, I was just looking at pics online. Maybe we will check that place out. Thanks ladies!!!

Re: Scratch my Oheka question....

I got married at the Carlyle. It was started by a guy that used to be a partner at the Carltun. My mom, who is a professional musician, put together a list of all the places she played at that she really liked- in terms of food, service, and the party 'getting off the ground'...

She told me that for some reason, all the weddings she played at the Carlton 'never got off the ground'... she said she had never been to a bad wedding at the Carlyle- I also liked the look for the Carlyle- and the food and service was impeccable!

We had many guests from NYC/NJ and it wasn't too far for them.. it's South Shore Nassau.

Really? Thanks Sassy, I will keep that in mind. My sister got married at the Carlyle, I can't be a copy cat. But it was def. gorgeous!!

I know Oheka is really nice but my Mom says the acoustics are a little iffy there... she says she always has a hard time performing there....

Did you look at Water's Edge in Long Island City? The interior is a *little* dated but it's ON the East River so the view is killer. AND your guests can take a free ferry from manhattan east side to the site.

Re: Scratch my Oheka question....

the tarrytown castle is beautiful, but it might be a bit of a trek for the SIers...but so will LI...

I went to a wedding at the Carltun and it was spectacular!!! I would definitely recommend it...one of my coworkers will mention the size of the shrimp at the cocktail hour every chance he can get (and this wedding was in 1999)
