Seamstress HELP

Seamstress HELP

I got my gown off netbride and am thrilled with it - it's a Lazaro gown that would have cost me about $1200 more at Kleinfelds. I had planned on having the alterations done by the woman who made my mother's wedding gown - she does great work.
BUT, I called her last week and she said she can't work on it until mid-September b/c she's out of the country for all of August and half of September.
Should I wait for her? My other option it the seamstress near me in Forest Hills who does amazing work but I'm sure will charge me a million dollars and I'm nervous about b/c he lost 2 items of my FSIL (an expensive Gucci shirt and her veils which I was supposed to use as my something borrowed!!)

Can anyone suggest a good seamstress or tell me what you think about waiting for my original woman? The wedding is October 28. I the dress altered in the bodice, the length and a little along the sides b/c the gown portion is supposed to have more of a fitted look.
TIA

Good luck!!
What about taking it to a bridal shop or searching on the web?

Re: Seamstress HELP

One of my BMs is getting married as well and I went with her yesterday to see her try on dresses at Lillette's which is near my mom's house. I asked them and the woman didn't even give me a verbal response. She just kept shaking her head no.

I'm using Cathy Fiorenti (a LIW vendor). she's SO nice. I don't know about her prices yet. she couldn't give me an estimate without seeing the dress in person.

IMO, if she'll be back mid Sept., you should wait. alterations don't need several months.

My first fitting is on 9/17 and I'm getting married the weekend after you.

I called Phyllis for a quote and she told me that since I didn't buy my gown from her, I would pay minimum $250 otherwise it wouldn't be worth it to her.

That was a turn off for me.

what if I only needed a hem and a simple bustle? I could have had that done where I bought my dress for the same price.

Re: Seamstress HELP

i know a seamstress that works for kleinfeld's but does work on the side. she only charged me $250 to change a size 8 into a size 2! she did the entire bodice and hem. i only went for 2 fittings, first time with the original dress unaltered, and second time it fitted me perfectly. she was exceptional!!!

let me know if you'd like her info.
