seamstress tipping - please help RP from BHB

Hello:

I have no idea what is appropriate for seamstress tipping. I am going for my second fitting to Kleinfelds today and I was wondering if anyone has an advise of how much and if should I tip. Alterations there are $595

i am not tipping my seamstress. they are charging too much money as it is

$595?? thats absolutely crazy!! my dress was only 800 haha. my alterations were actually 350 which was a ripoff since all she did was a bustle and hemmed the bottom. i didnt tip her crap

WOW! After payig $595 I wouldnt pay that either...my dress wasnt much more than that!!

I did not tip for any alterations on any of the dresses. I am sure they 'added' their tip into the cost already.

Once you have the dress in hand, they are not going to hound you for a tip.

I don't plan on tipping my seamstress. I am paying about $350 for a hem, cups to be sewn in and the straps to be taken in a bit. It never even crossed my mind to tip my seamstress. I really don't plan on doing it.

It is NOT the norm to tip your seamstress. It's not expected. I didn't do it - most people don't.

If she did something amazing or went above and beyond, I'd consider a modest ($20-25) tip. Absent that, she shouldn't be tipped.

Seamstress/dress fitter - Although it is not customary to tip your seamstress or dress fitter if you feel that they have made an extra special effort on your behalf then tip them between $15 - $30.

I am NOT tipping my seamstress. Don't think it is necessary.

I got my dress at Kleinfeld's as well and I did not tip my seamstress. However, in hindsight I wish I had. She did a phenomenal job on my dress. I probably would have given her $50 if I had thought about it ahead of time.

ETA: the amount I would tip.
