I am planning to order my wedding gown online, but am really worried about finding someone to do the alterations. Does anyone have any suggestions of seamstresses in Manhattan (where I work), the Bronx (my parents live in Riverdale ) or Brooklyn (where I live)? Any recommendations would be highly appreciated!! Also, if you have an idea of costs, that would be great. Thanks!!

I'll ask my friend about Riverdale. She lives there.

I had my alterations done in Manhattan at Madame Paulette. They did an AMAZING job and they didn't stop working on my gown until it was PERFECT (which was 2 days before the wedding!). It cost $400.

I know of a really good place in Brooklyn. It's called Emerly's. It is on 14th Avenue btwn 66th and 67th Street.

Thank you so much! I would definitely feel better about ordering online if I have a seamstress I feel confident in. I would love to hear about someone in Riverdale, since the dress will 'live' at my parents house!

I think there's someone named Karin Yngsvedotter (I'm almost definitely mis-spelling her last name) that gets absolute raves on theknot. She's in either Brooklyn or Queens - look her up in City Weddings by Joan Hamburg, or post on theknot asking for 'Karin Y''s contact info. I've also heard good things about someone named Silvy Substance. Good luck!
