Searching for a librarian/librarian asst. job

what kind of library? i've been searching for over a year now with no success but i have several links to specialized sites (ie law libraries) at home. i can fm you later if you like.

I am currently a student at Queens College pursuing my masters. Ideally I would like a trainee position at Queens Borough Public Library System, but its so hard to get in touch with anyone there. I thought maybe someone may know someone who works in the system.

i went to the university of maryland. you may have tried this already, but if you go to the ny public library site (nypl.org) they have a listing on their site under current vacancies for their trainee program. not sure if they do queens though.

silly me, i actually got into the trainee program and then decided i didn't want to go to cw post, i wanted to go to md b/c they have a better archives program. alas, that seems to have been my biggest mistake. but i'll keep trying. eventually someone will want me

Wow! You actually got a position as a trainee for Queens? I guess they dont' have as many positions now.

I did apply through NYPL system. I would work in Manhattan.

I have an alternative for you.

When I was looking for a trainee job I sent a letter to every single library director in Nassau County. I ended up with several job interviews for trainne positions that were not even posted. I wound up working as a trainee in Rockville Centre.

Maybe you could do this for the Queens or Manhattan libraries.

See I wanted to do that, but there is a problem.

The Queens and NYC library is a system. You can only apply to the Main Library (Jamaica) and they can make the decision what library to put you in. You cannot contact the libraries directly. I tried.

oops, no sorry that wasn't clear, i got the position through nypl, for a spot in manhattan. are you only looking for trainee spots? when will you graduate?
