Searching past posts

Doesnt it annoy you guys when people say its been posted check......
Or do a search.

I dont know it annoys me. We wouldnt be asking the question if we had seen the original post. I had said this once before when someone replied to me. I am sorry it just ticks me off, a little. I mean we all do our hoework and search for a lot of things for our weddings and then to get a response like that irks me. The way I look at it is why would we be asking if all we had to do was search right? I dont know about any of you guys but I like immediate satisfaction when I am here. Which we all normally get.

I know I apologized when I had originally made this comment but i just want to say it again. Cause I saw it in response to someone else and like I said it irks me. I am sorry for going on & on but other then pmsing today I am having a hard day all around.

Re: Searching past posts

People say that so that the bride doesnt have to rewrite a review or maybe that bride is already married and doesnt frequent the board that much. If you see something that someone asks and you have seen information before on that vendor and you are not the one who wrote the review, I dont think you would want to rewrite it again. Yesterday someone asked a question about one of my vendors. Someone else reponded to search for my review. I did post a response to yesterdays post, but I do have another review elsewhere. There is nothing wrong with someone responding to a post to seach for the review! I dont find that annoying at all! Any kind of time or help anyone gave me when I had a question I VERY much appreciated! People on this board are only here to help you and not annoy you. Maybe you should think about that before you put the post you just did....

Re: Searching past posts

lili - I am somewhere between you and Cindy's response. It doesn't annoy me but sometimes it irks me too. I think it is all in how it is phrased or when it is used. I think if I was a new bride to the board it would bother me more because I would be like how would I know it has been posted before if someone just wrote do a search..it has been posted before.

I know alot of posts repeat and I have no problem repeating myself. Hey, we are all at different points in our planning so what is new to some won't be new to all and we are all here to help everyone at different points in our planning. I now I have posted to do a search but I usually say there is a good post by XYZ or even link them there.

Don't let it bother you too much. Remember writing things you don't hear a person's tone and sometimes things that sound rude to one person isn't rude to another. Some people are short and simple and some are long and wordy (I tend to be the latter in general hehe).

Re: Searching past posts

I see that it seems to bug some people when brides ask questions that have already been addressed.
How many questions and topics can a bride have?
This website has been here for awhile so obviously just about everything has been discussed.
Funny that the ppl that have told me before ' do a search' are some of the same ppl that bring up topics that I have personally seen talked about before as well...
But sometimes I feel that it is helpful and I do appreciate when somebody takes the time to let me know that it has been brought up before...

Dont let those comments irk you..I dont think that anyone here means to be anything less than helpfull

Re: Searching past posts

i don't think there is anything wrong with asking questions that may have been asked in the past. sure it helps to do a search, because its an easy way to find info. we always do that when looking for info or someone. but i also think that asking is fun, and there can always be new info or ideas that someone has. besides, if we went by making everyone feel that they should only search, there would be very very few posts on here since just about every topic has been covered. we would have to call it a search board instead. who doesn't love it when they post something and you get a bunch of views and responses? i do

Re: Searching past posts

I have said do a search before and I will tell you why: Because I know the answer is on the board someplace but I do not have the exact quote to rewrite myself. Should I, as the person trying to help, spend tons of time going through old posts to try and find it for you? Also, I highly doubt that most of us do searches before we ask questions. Some brides even write 'I know this has been posted before or asked before but what does everyone think about XX' I don't fault her for not searching but I should not be faulted for suggesting a search either. Also, certain information should be read in the context that it was written. I am not able to re-post an entire thread. So by suggestioning someone search for something specific the reader can have all the facts, not just one sentence.

Re: Searching past posts

also to add to Michele31's response, it'll help YOU out more if you do a search..I regularly do searches (here and other boards) and you wouldn't believe all the stuff that you can find out...you have to remember that it dates way back to the beginning so you will basically get all, if any, feedback that's been posted..

Re: Searching past posts

I agree with Cindy and Michele...

I will always answer a question if it is quick, and sometimes I have searched for the post MYSELF to link for the bride...but sometimes when you are at work and still trying to be helpful...its the best you can do...to tell the bride that it was posted and she could find some answers in the search..

Re: Searching past posts

I don't think people are trying to be mean when they say 'do a search,' they are just trying to be helpful. I mean, even if people do respond to your question it still might not be as helpful as an original post because of the reasons cited by Cindy. On the other hand, I don't mind when people post repetitive questions -- if its not of interest to me I just don't read it. No reason to pick a fight over it.
