seating arrangement Help

Here's the story-My parents are divorced forever-they don't speak to eachother, my Mom's family is huge-my Dad's is less than two tables. My Fi family is also very small. Can I sit my dad & Fi family on the same side? I'm naming tables but also numbering for the hall, is it proper for certain people to sit at certain table numbers?
I'm trying to be diplomatic. Any suggestions would be so helpful! Thanks

At my brother's wedding, he sat my dad and his wife on one side and my mom and stepdad on the other. I really don't think it matters. You want everyone to feel comfortable.
