Seating arrangements for parents...

Do you normally seat my parents at one table, and his at another? Or do you seat them together? I was thinking of 2 seperate tables. Any input would be appreciated . Thanks girls

I would think that they would be separate so that they could sit with their families.

There are a few ways to do this:

1- Seat parents together, also with the bride and groom. This makes a strong statement about the blending of 2 families

2-Seat each set of parents totally separately with their own family/friends

I would not seat them together if you are not also going to be at that table. (unless they are very very close)

I agree too. Most likely your parents are going to be sitting anyway, but let them sit with their family and friends.

I'm trying to figure this out as well. I might put each set of parents separately with whomever they are closest to.

Usually the bride's parents and close relatives sit on the even numbered tables and the groom on the odd numbered tables i.e. Table 2 - Brides family and table 1 groom's family. Don't know why they do it that way, but that's the way I have known it to be.

seperate definately. My parents want to sit with thier close friends and family -- you want them to be comfortable and be able to talk with who they want at dinner, not make awkward or forced convo with the ILs because they feel like they have to.

Also, I kinda understand the blending of two families thing, but to be honest, in a lot of marriages the families dont really feel that the parents are blending into one....its more that the bride and groom are becoming their own family. For example, my FMIL is not going to be anything to my Mom except for the mom of her son in law. So, they really arent going to be 'family' and i know they want to sit with THEIR friends and family, not MY new family (and my parents actually get along well with FH's parents...but both parents dont think its appropriate to sit together).

My parents are divorced & prob would be best to sit them at diff tables, but my dads family still is super close to me & my mom, so for the sake of one day im seating them together, Plus they are not coming with anyone ,,

i think if they had dates , id sit them apart

Ours will be seperate - they will each sit with their guests. My parents, FH's dad & step mom and FH's mom each have their own table with their guests.

Thanks for your input girls!! I'll be seating them seperately, and doing my family at the even tables.
