Seating Cards - Last name or First name?

My venue asked me to arrange my seating cards in alphabetical order. Does anyone know if I arrange them by last name or first name?!

Seating Cards - Last name or First name?

When I alphabetize them, I am doing it according to last name. So 1) Mr. and Mrs. John Adams, 2) Mr. & Mrs. Steven Smith, etc. I have it alphabetized already b/c my venue wants an alphabetized list with table numbers in addition to the alphabetized escort cards.
