Seating Chart Fiasco

Seating Chart Fiasco

Well, first of all, we are not going to make our minimum of 150. We only have about 133 people who are coming to our wedding, so needless to say, FH and I are a little bummed. Anyway, I sat down tonight to finally work on our seating chart and I realized we have a big problem...in our RH, there are 8 tables on the bride's side and 8 on the grooms. My side works out fine, but FH's family is much smaller than mine and I am left with three empty tables . What do I do? The tables on his side are not even filled to capacity. Anyone encounter a problem like this?

they can take out tables---or mix up the tables around (his side only has something like 5 tables, ours has 15)...
we are interspersing them amongst each other (table wise)

FH's side spills over onto my side by like 5 tables. I think mingling sounds like a good idea.

I just wanted to tell you I know how you feel about not making the minimum... it's so depressing... (I'm wayyyy off, more than you) but I guess we have to look on the bright side and be happy for whoever does come and enjoy our day!!!!
I haven't even started doing seating yet, but, I think it's a good idea like everyone else said to mix up the tables so it appears more even.
Good luck!

Thank you so much for saying that. It's nice to know I'm not the only one with that problem.

did you remember to count you and FH in the 150?
and what about your photog and dj etc. the RH usually asks for 1/2 price but maybe you can count them too.

Take out tables...if you have 133 people assume at most you need 14 tables...7 on each side.
Your side works out fine...put the other however many guest on the other side. My family is alot smaller then DHs and we did his side...and put my family with all of our friend-it worked out very well for us b/c my parents are young loved being around the younger crowd

We didn't make our minimum either--realized when we were adding it up that we didn't even send out enough invitations to make the minimum! Yeah, we're stooopid. But, then, we looked at it this way: we already put that money aside. So what we had fewer people, it just meant that the per person cost was higher, and it was pretty low to start with, as we got a deal for booking the wedding only six months in advance. You guys already set that money aside, right? It's gone. Don't think about it anymore, and don't worry about who isn't coming or making your minimum.

And as far as the 'sides' go--mix them up. You have thirteen tables? Put six on one side, seven on the other, mixing bride's and groom's guests. It just means people will mingle more, and you want that anyway. When I did mine, I thought more about things like putting the kids' table in the back, but close to the table with most of the parents, and putting the tables with our friends nearest the bar!

Good luck. Doing the seating chart really isn't as bad as they say, or I didn't find it such, and I had to deal with several family members on each side who refused to sit together.

Same thing here. Each side has 6 tables, but it worked out fine because my side needed 7 so I am just sticking my extra table on his side.
