How many 'cooks in the kitchen' need to help create a seating chart? I don't want too many!!!!

Re: seating chart question
Only fh and I. The families can deal with it!

Re: seating chart question
That's what I want it to be, too. If we have any questions, one of us could easily call the respective mother to ask that question.

Re: seating chart question
We just did this Saturday night. It was me, FH, My Mom and My sister. We needed the help and Mom wanted input so it worked out well. HTH

Re: seating chart question
I'm going to ask FMIL for input only as far as who is related to who, because some of her family I don't know if it's cousins on her mom's side or dad's. Other than that, I think I can figure out the 10 people in my family lol.

Re: seating chart question
I'd give each mom a shot at it, explaining that you have final say and it may change if you see fit, and then you can do seating for your friends. Better to just involve them in the process than hear the b!tching that will surely ensue if you don't.

Re: seating chart question
I would definitely just do it with FH..if you have any questions just call the parents and ask...but too many cooks can spoil the pot.. (is that the saying?) lol...

Re: seating chart question
I believe we get a certain amount of tables.
I'm going to give each parent a certain amount of tables, depending on the size of their guest list and they have to make it work with their people and FH and I will make final adjustments

Re: seating chart question
Honestly I will be doing the bulk of it before we actually get together (I did the eparty this way and it made a world of a difference)... I drew up like 3 scenerios (maybe more).... and then my mother and grandmother came into play and they were able to tell me where they wanted their people and who could and should sit near whom etc. Then I have FH and his mom take care of that part.
I think it all depends on who you are inviting and how well you know them. For me my mother is inviting a good amount of people.. so i will let her pick who she thinks should sit with whom and where. same goes for FH and his mother.. they can figure out who goes where for the people they know. It gets to be a little tricky.. especially when you have people who can't sit near someone because of silly reasons.. which believe me does happen!

Re: seating chart question
I asked FMIL to seat her side. And then I asked my mom to do her side/my family. DH and I did our own friends. IT worked out nicely - no fights. I think I asked them to do it about 3-4 weeks before... once i head a good idea of the head count and who was coming for sure. We were done with it really quick.... let them fuss over it on their own time, so there is no drama if you all do it together.

i think you should totally do this.. but be careful with telling them that's what you are doing in the end; just so they dont get upset. i think making the final decisions can be done in quiet and just handed into the RH. I doubt anyone would notice changes the day of. There will be sooo many other things to focus on.

Re: seating chart question
Since I BARELY know some of the friends that FMIL is inviting, maybe it's best if I say, 'Okay, you have x number of tables, so seat your friends and family for me!!' With my family, I think I can go by my sister's seating chart from two years ago. Friends will be easy enough.
