So I've heard that you are supposed to mix guests up at tables so people can meet new people but in doing my chart it just seems to be more trouble than it's worth. . obviously some tables will have a mix of folks but I have others that are more filled with folks who know each other. . so are you all mixing folks or not? why or why not?
TIA!!!

Re: seating chart question
We are going to have very few people who do not know each other, because we're going to have I'd say 80% family, and 20% friends and FH's coworkers, possibly mine. So all family will be seated with family, and probably all friends at one table (mine and his), and then all coworkers at another few tables. Maybe a few will overlap to the friend table or vice versa, but I'm going to try to keep it where family units and social units aren't broken.

Re: seating chart question
FH doesn't want to have table assignments at all. My parents 100% insist on table assignments.
We will probably keep people around at least many people they know. I have a slight problem because work people and college friends miraculously overlap. Once I get more responses, I'll start working on the tables. We have 66 yeses so far, and most of them are my dad's friends... sigh.
We're doing a buffet so people are totally welcome to mix themselves up and will hopefully be sociable!

Re: seating chart question
Everyone is going to know at least one person at their table but most people will know almost all of the people they sit with...I personally would feel uncomfy sitting with people I don't know and a few people already expressed this concern to me so I tried to put people who knew each other together as much as possible.

Re: seating chart question
I have five different groups at our wedding
My dad has 80 people My mom has 45 people My MIL has 64 People I have 34 and FH has 30
My dad decided to do something really nice. He is putting at his table all of his friends that are kind of singletons/coupletons (don't know anyone else there) so they will feel comfortable because they all know him and my step-mom. Even though they will not be sitting too long at the table, it makes the people who don't know anyone else more comfortable.

Re: seating chart question
I am going to keep people together who should be together..Family, cosins, aunts/uncles, family from VA, family from CT.
My friends are the same. I will put people who know eachother together, then fill in with random people.

Re: seating chart question
I would think it was odd if i was given a table assignment at a wedding with people i didn't know...We sat people according to groups -
My work friends his work friends college friends family cousins ...etc..
You want people to be comfortable and enjoy them selves and some people might feel uncomfortable sitting with strangers. JMHO...

IF they overlap...just make sure both tables are next to eachother.. I had a childhood friend that I also work with...so actually it helped me.. because she knew peopel at both tables well, she was flexible and i could put her at either table.
