Seating Charts...for girls that did them already....

What is the best, most efficient way to do this w/ out pulling your hair out??

I haven't done them, but was always told the best way is color coded post it notes on the wall.

Or an old friend of mine did her's in excel by color. The list was on the left, then the table lists next to it in certain colors and the list was only crossed off by color if a person was 'seated'.

We took a big piece of oak tag & placed all the tables in the appropriate places
We then took post its and cut them into strips and put the guests names on them.
Works like a charm. Its easier to move people around to different tables

shoot, I didn't do a real-life version....

I only made an excel spread sheet, and had 10 rows / table (one for each seat) People firmly situated at a table were in black font, and those I was still shifting about were in red....

do it in excel....

you can highlight a group of cells, and put them around the dance floor, and you can move people around. This was so easy.

We used Excel and the RSVPs to chart out the seats. Its the easiest way and gives you a more organized way of seating and tallying how many people are at each table. Example

Table 1 Table2
person 1 person1
person2 etc
etc...

We're using the RSVP cards to do ours. Hopefully it will work but I like the idea someone else had about the cardboard with the sticky notes. Thats an awesome way to move people around.
Best of luck!!!

FH and I are the king and queen of spreadsheets, but we did ours the old-fashioned way - pencil and paper! Our tables could vary from 8-12 people, so I made 15 list of 12 and we started by penciling in people we thought should sit together. The FILs did their friend's table, but we did the rest. Once we had all the lists, we looked at the outline of the RH and then placed each group at a table. Honestly, it didn't take long at all. It helped that we could vary the number of people at each table!

i just wrote names on color coded strips of paper and sorted them into groups on my kitchen table. For me it worked better to have physical pieces of paper rather than on a spread sheet because its easier to move the pieces of paper around and it was easier for me to visualize that way
