OK....so I'm having my bridal party sit with us. My FSIL and the best man are bringing dates. Should we sit the dates at our table or sit them at other tables? Keep in mind, the best man's date knows noone else at the wedding.

That's tough, you feel bad for the person seating them somewhere away from their date but at the same time you should't have to put someone you really don't know at your table! Good luck!! Kitty

Dates are supposed to sit with their dates. If you are definitely having the BP sit with you, then their dates should sit with you as well.
We're sitting by ourselves, and anyone bringing a date in the BP will be sitting with their date.
It's the whole point of having a date...to be with each other to experience it together.

JMO-why would you seperate your BP and their dates? If I was attending a wedding asa guest or in a BP and I was not sitting with the person I came with-I would be upset-

You should have their dates sit with them. We went to a wedding over the summer where I was in the bridal party and we sat with the bride and groom and my FH wasn't happy that he had to sit at a table with a bunch of people he didn't know.

I agree.
I also agree. We sat separately and split up the bridal part so that everyone sat with their friends/relatives. I'd rather have people who knew each other sit together than put people at a table simply b/c they were all in the BP. I wouldn't invite people with a date if I planned to seat them separately.

I completely agree with this. But my mom is like, 'the bridal party should just sit with the bridal party.' Then she went on to tell me about how my dad was in a bridal party and she wasn't and how she had to sit by herself. I told here I didn't want to make anyone that uncomfortable.

There's a compromise to this...Have the Bridal Party and their dates sit on one table, and you and your FI sit alone or with others.
We're sitting by ourselves. Otherwise, we would sit with our MOH w/her date, and the BestMan with his date...everyone else in the BP w/their dates at other tables...

I would allow the dates of your bridal party to sit with them. I was at a wedding where the bridal party sat at their own tables and the FH of one of the groomsmen had to sit at a table with people she didn't know. They were NOT happy and didn't know about the seating arrangements ahead of time.

That's a good idea. I might try that.

I would def sit their dates with them. If you don't feel comfortable with people you do not know very well at your table, then sit by yourselves or sit with other people.

Re: Seating Dilema!!!!
I separated out the dates, personally. Only one person had any issue with it (that came to my attention). But really, the amount of time they spent at the table when all was said and done was minimal.

Re: Seating Dilema!!!!
I think it would be nicer if they sit with their dates. The whole point of bringing dates is so they can enjoy it together, and it's very uncomfortable when you don't know anyone else there and your date is sitting elsewhere.

Times have changed. Tell your mom that was then..things are different now. Please,do what your heart tells you,my mom also had a cow over the slipper baskets, later when the compliments rolled in, SHE WAS TAKING CREDIT!
Sit the BP with their dates...if I wasn't sitting with DH,you could safely say I'd be P'oed.

if someone took me as their date to a wedding, and then i found out i couldnt sit with them i would be upset and probably would want to leave the party. I hate sitting with people i dont know and get very uncomfortable with it, especially when i am eating...

YOu have to do what you want. Your mother I am assuming got married a long time ago--today things are very different. Me & DH sat together at our own table, then our BP sat with their friends or family depending on where we thougth they fit in. We didn't make them sit together. You want your guests to have fun, most of all the people in your BP are your closest friends & family who have done everything for you for this wedding I would sit them with their dates, especially if there is only 2 people in your BP bringing dates. Its your wedding you do what you want--I had to tell my mom a few times this isn't 1978 when you got married things have changed. Good luck sometimes it hard to tell your mom that especially if she is paying for the wedding but in the end it is your day!

We're sitting at a sweetheart table, and having 2 bridal party tables for the bridal party and their dates. I wouldn't want my BP to have dates that have to sit at another table.

They should not sit with the BP, maybe you should seat your BP on a separate table with their dates.
