Seating drama

Seating drama

So FML just stopped by to chat about wedding stuff and we started talking about seating. Now the tables seat 10 with 2 tables that seat 14. She says 'oh my family will be 11 at one table.' Ok. And there is another table of 11 and a table of 12 and one of only 8 - uh... the tables seat ten. I explain this to her and how i'd rather not have people crowded at some tables and half empty at others. Plus, I dont wanna have to have any extra unnecesary tables. She argued with me for 110 minutes about it saying, 'i cant separate these people and I dont wanna starngers with those people.' Finally she said she had to go home to figure her seating out and left. It was kinda tense. Am I wrong?

no, your not wrong. If she wants to figure out her tables...let her know you have X amount of tables and it seats X people at each.

i was told our tables seat 8-12 with 3 tables that seat 14. thats why my life was so easy doing the seating charts. some tables have 12 some have 9 people and no one's going to notice much.

You're not wrong at all. I doubt it's necessary to have all 11, 12 people sitting together. They'll live. People should mingle with new people anyway. I think as long as a guest knows at least one of two people at their table, they should be fine. You're FMIL is being unreasonable.

How are they her tables? They are your guests and you should sit them where you want. If people really want to move around they will on their own.

Re: Seating drama

My mom has already been giving me a little bit of a problem regarding seating. So and so can't sit with so and so because 100 years ago he insulted her over something no one can remember and this one hates that one for no reason in particular so they have to be on opposite sides of the room and if such and such person doesn't sit with her kids she'll just make a place for herself at that table anyway...

I say... too godamned bad... it's 4 hours of their lives and if they can't act like adults that is their own issue. People will sit where I put them. Like my grandparents. They got divorced over 40 years ago. They have both since remarried. Lets all move on. You're 80. You'll sit at this table and smile.

Really people don't even need to be seated the entire time. Just to eat their food, to listen to toasts and wait for cake. Other than that they can go mingle and dance and do whatever else they like.

Why did she have to go home to figure anything out? She has nothing to do with who sits where. That is for you and your FH to handle. She needs to be stopped ASAP!!!!!!

You're definitely not wrong. I haven't involved my FML at all. Never even asked her opinion on anything and she's offered plenty of times. I'm not interested and I have no time for the drama. I believe in mixing everyone in...they are less likely to talk about crap or criticize things if they don't know who people are at their table.

Nope. She can give suggestions but in the end it's your decision.

Your not wrong at all! Thats just silly - these people are adults and I am sure they will be able to hold their own no matter where you put them!

I am def with you on this one! I would not crowd the tables.

you are NOT wrong at all!! if the table fits 10 you cant fit in 11 !! maybe she didnt know what to expect with the seating so now knowing she'll figure it out ?
